Naruto 504

Noooo! I told you to only wash the Kyuubi with cold water!!!

Summary:

Ummm, sorry but Jiraiya raised me to disregard all those previous warnings...

Kushina wonders why Minato doesn’t just escape and raise Naruto himself, but Minato secretly hates kids and also can’t turn his back on the village.  Minato figures it’d be better to grow up without parents than without a village, especially since it takes a village to raise a child.  With that, Minato activates the Dead Demon Seal and shrinks the Kyuubi down several pants sizes.

'Cause I blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol

The Kyuubi does not appreciate the amazing effects of the Dead Demon Seal diet, and with the chains loosened he takes a swipe at Naruto to avoid being sealed in the baby.  Both Kushina and Minato jump in to intercept the claw, and Kushina remarks that this is the first family argument that Minato has ever won.  With the last few precious seconds remaining, Kushina tells Naruto to bathe regularly, eat well, sleep early, make high quality friends, study and find something he is good at, make a life goal, listen to the teachers, find a girlfriend like his mother, avoid debt, save mission money, say no to underage drinking, and read Sea Slugs! Anime Blog daily.  Minato slyly chimes in with a fourth rule about watching out for Jiraiya, and the Kyuubi is sealed away.

Back in the present mind-time, Kushina apologizes for putting Naruto through tough times.  Naruto isn’t too bummed, since unlike Sasuke he never knew what it was like to have family.  Naruto mentions he never blamed his parents and everything turned out alright since Minato and Kushina filled him with love before filling him with Kyuubi.  As Kushina fades away happily, she thanks Naruto for being her son.

Reaction:

While not much really happened, this was a real tear-jerker of a chapter, with Kushina and Minato’s sacrifice really filled out.  I guess this highlights the difference between Naruto and Sasuke, but just wait until Sasuke suddenly gets trapped in a mind-world and a ghostly Itachi tells him a multi-chapter sob story.  It’s gotta happen right?

Since his time with his mother was so limited, it was probably best that Naruto omitted the details about how he spent his teenage years with Jiraiya.  I leave you with two final thoughts:

  1. Kyuubi suppositories
  2. Pretzel M&Ms
About Kabitzin:
One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well-choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns.

I got ever so slightly teary at this chapter. Why is all the flashback stuff in Naruto so much better than the main storyline? ;P

I have a lot of respect for you taking this series seriously. It says a lot about your character. I couldn’t stomach it. I wonder if that makes me less of a man.

Seriously, Sakura is so useless and everyone is always dumping on poor Hinata that it makes me root for Hinata.

It’s not the size of the Kyuubi that matters, but how you use it.

find a girlfriend like his mother

AHH hell no  Seriously, now it almost seems certain that NarutoxSakura pairing will succeed. I liked the whole parent bonding moments in these last few chapters. The fourth really is a responsible guy, and very commendable. If I recall, you spent eternity inside that demon’s belly, slowly being digested, and suffering horrible pain, I think. Geez, I don’t know if I would be able to do what he just did.

Do we ever get to see Sakura’s parents? I feel like we’ve seen just about everyone else’s parents, but I can’t for the life of me remember anything about Sakura’s mom or dad.

she was probably adopted and her real parent were from Naruto’s mom village or something. Yeah I can’t remember her parents ever making an appearance, maybe a glimpse in the anime but I can’t be that sure.

I thought this was a real touching chapter too. Rounded this little arc off pretty well.

Now we can finally get back to where things gets real.
