Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ – 03

ayyo i got dis new DANCE fah yall called tha Soulja Boy! u gotta punch den crank back three times from left 2 right (ahhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! (Wow, so it really was the Soulja Boy...)

It’s the beginning of a new semester, and Yoshinoya just so happens to be Yuno and Miyako’s teacher! Now that they are juniors, they will have to decide between three electives: planes, solids, or information, but Yuno feels pressured in making a decision. Fortunately, she has two upper-class(wo)men to guide her on the right path. Yuno finally scribbles her decision with those chubby little fingers, but she remembered the time when we fell in love when Sae personally gave her advice on how not to sit on a cat.

"Well, what can I say? I entrepre-knew-her!" - Bill Gates

In this flashback, Yuno clumsily bumps into a stack of books at a bookstore (hurr) and stacks them back with her big head. Unknowingly, Sae is there watching. “Hey, I know that big head! It must be Yuno! You know?” Yeah, well now she knows, and they start chit-chatting while heading to Café Maple. There, Sae talks about her future decisions and Yuno is inspired by this.

"Everybody wants to be a cat!... 'cause da cats the only cat... who knows where it's at!"

Impressions:

I would talk about the full OP animation or how Yuno sat her tiny pumper-bumper on a cat, but I found something more interesting in this episode: The relationship between Yuno and Sae. I don’t usually see them together, which is why I’m surprised how easily they can relate with each other.

I remember back in the Golden Age of Anime Blogging, a certain person told me his concern with some friends. Whenever he didn’t want to hang out (movies/mall/etc), his friends wouldn’t go either. He was confused as to why he always had to be there just so his friends can get together, but I told him that his friends only share a bond with him, not with one another.

Then he was all like, “That actually makes sense! Thanks Jesus159159159!” and I was all like, “Don’t mention it!”, and then you were probably all like, “What does this have to do with Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ – 03?” and my reply would be, “Because it’s the complete opposite with Yuno and Sae!” They don’t have to rely on Miyako or Hiro just to converse with each other. They even have conflicting/shy/reserved/non-conversationalistic (lol) personalities, and yet they were able to bond perfectly.

I found this relationship to be truly amazing, and it’s another reason why Hidamari Sketch is such a great show! Also, I forgive Yuno for sitting on a cat, just like Kabitzin will hopefully forgive me for being late with this post!

"Hey man, let's get together! YEA-YEA-YEAH!!! We can have a really good Tai-haaiimme!!", but he didn't want to. I used my connections to get to his Funky-Section, but again, he denied. I am but an afterthought, but he will always be my thought-after. Jesus was a Gangsta Jigg. He's bustin' for the Customers.

Thanks for talking about this series so much that I felt compelled to give it a try, I’m really liking it so far. Going to get the original and x365 too. Sometimes I just want something funny and chill and this fits the bill perfectly.

The eyecatch of Yuno as a daytrader was a great final touch on that scene, though not having watched any HS before I didn’t know that her and Sae weren’t shown hanging out very much. Which is cool, having all a show’s cast of characters spend time with each other in pairs as well as in a group always offers more opportunities, whether they be comedic or dramatic ones. For example, I always liked the scenes that Yamada and Morita had together in Honey and Clover, even though their lives are often somewhat separated.

“Yuno, you know.” That’s just the kind of ‘don’t know if I should laugh or groan’ puns that I expect of you, keep up the good work! Write up episode 04 nao!

Alright! Converted a manly-mecha-comrade to watch Hidamari Sketch! SUCCESS!!! YAHTARRR!!! TAINK YOO!!! Also, I’m actually very interested in your viewpoint of the previous seasons. Since you’re watching this season first, I wonder how that will change your impressions on the first two. Well, you’ll still love it, but I just wonder. Hmmmmm *nod nod*

      Honey and Clover

uhh, funny you should mention that! *whistles* *procrastinates* *whistles* ;)

Oh, and the Yuno-You-Know joke was also featured in my previous HS posts, but it first premiered in my Natsu no Arashi post (back in my sufoki-days)…. yea.

Guess I wasn’t the only one who thought this was unusual. I did find this quite rare, we normally don’t see the two together often, so I thought maybe we would have some awkwardness in this scene. It was nice to see this development though.

I really enjoyed the added animation for the op, it was a great improvement. I especially enjoyed the segment with Yuno sitting on a cat, like who would expect to find a cat on your seat. And that cat actually looked like he enjoyed having Yuno sitting on him.

Perhaps they show more bondage between the two in the manga. I also want to see Natsume grouped with another gal… like maybe Yuno or Miyako. I think maybe it was shown once, but I can’t remember.

that cat actually looked like he enjoyed having Yuno sitting on him.

I WOULD LOVE TO BE THAT CAT- I MEAN… Haha, really? That poor cat looked like he was gonna die from Yuno’s PHAT-AY-YASS!!! She’s gotta stop eating those snacks or Hiro will have to give her a coupon to Bally Total Fitness! :|

I think it all plays into the family roles that the four girls have settled into: Hiro the mother, Sae the father, and Miyako and Yuno as the sisters. Usually you interact with your parents as a set or occasionally with the mother but not as often with the father, which is what I think happens here: father and daughter having a heartfelt conversation about the future, where the daughter understand that her parents deal with the same kind of troubles and insecurities.

I never thought of it that way! WHO KNOWS WHAT SAE AND HIRO BE DOIN’ UP THERE WHEN LIGHTS ARE OUT!!! YEAAAA!!! I never regard Sae as a guy ’cause then it wouldn’t be considered a Lesbian Romance, but it’s still alright to think of it as a man with woman thing. Hiro does have nice child-bearing hips! ;P

Their conversation really hit home since I’m also wondering what I should do in the art field. I’m glad there are many possible routes I can take, but it’s still somewhat daunting since you have to be really good in the particular field you choose.
