I always feel like, somebody's watching me...
Summary:

You want to befriend her after defeating her? What is this, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha?
Further questioning reveals that Ume’s plan went awry and some of the stupider rumors came from other girls. Ume just wanted to isolate Sawako again; this pisses Chizuru off, and she orders Ume to stop using people and to never make Sawako cry again. As great as the speech is, Ume retorts that everyone uses her, and so she has no problem using them right back. Ayane, however, goes right for the throat and threatens to reveal Ume’s true nature to Shota. Although Ume acts like she doesn’t care, it’s clear that she’s really afraid to let Shota know how bitchy she is.
Sawako spends the next few sporting events totally spaced out, and then she hears some girls talking crap about Ume’s lack of effort in sporting events. This convinces her to go back to the tree where Ume is still pouting, and she tells Ume that they are birds of a feather. They’re both deeply in love with Shota, and Sawako feels Ume is the only one she can go to for some Shota fangirling. Ume is upset that Sawako has returned in time to see Ume crying, and she complains that being beautiful is useless if Shota still never notices her. Meanwhile, Sawako can’t help but notice how cute Ume is when lit by her love for Shota.
Reaction:

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.
I like how manipulative Ume is, but her evil planning needs some work; she was getting seriously outclassed by Ayane. You’d think that Ume would play to her own strengths and leverage her superior knowledge of Shota to get a leg up. What Ume should do is get Ayane and Chizuru to badmouth her to Shota, and then pretend to be the moe moe victim. This would play to her more petite stature, and stroke Shota’s pity bone. It would also make Ayane, Chizuru, and Sawako look petty and mean-spirited. Combined with Pin’s bragging, how would Shota resist? Help me Shota, you’re my only hope!
Still, I really liked Ume’s speech at the end, and I felt bad for her. Damn that Sawako, she makes it look so easy! Speaking of easy, I noticed that Chizuru’s red shirt allowed her to win the soccer match 3-2 with the rest of the team… playing zone (to put it kindly). Unfortunately, while the shirt enabled Chizuru to single-handedly win in soccer, it was ineffective in volleyball. Sometimes the best laid plans just don’t pan out.

About Kabitzin: One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well-choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns. |

But can Ume do Blue Steel? How about El Tigre?
Just wait till Ume breaks out Magnun on Sawako!
I am so waiting for the inevitable catwalk dance-off.
I agree that Ume should have played the victim card earlier, and should have been begging Ayane to go tell Shota what happened. Keeping up the nice front is way too much work, but she’s got plenty of material to help her call up sympathy-inducing tears. And like you said, after getting the bomb dropped on her by Pin (his legend-in-his-own-mind thing is hilarious), there’s no way that Shota wouldn’t feel sorry for her. It looks like she’s actually going to say something next time though, so hopefully she starts taking the crush thing seriously.
On a random note, I found a lot of the scenes distracting this episode because it looked like everyone had oversized bodies and tiny heads. Maybe they were going for some kind of fish-eye effect, but it sure wasn’t doing anything for me.
I noticed that too.. they must have had the ‘B team’ animating this episode…
Pah, if Vichy-tan went to play up the victim card to Kazehaya it wouldn’t work anyway since it would be a very short amount of time, if any at all, before Kazehaya was convinced it’s a lie or misunderstanding. For one he knows how honest Sawako is, and his time with her and her friends has demonstrated her goodwill. And even if she somehow managed to get together with him, a love based on treachery is worthless!
Love based on treachery is the best kind of love!
lol, this is so wrong. (Just curious, are you going to check out the movie?)
Aw Ume acting all tough to the bitter end was cute, but I did feel sorry for her when she started crying. Finding out that people used her, and some talking behind her back really got to me.
Seeing Chizu, and Ayane blushing after sawako using the chan horrific was priceless.
