Eiji is pleased that Yuki has defied him, and so he brings her down to his special gallery of identical fake paintings of the girl with the lilies. Unfortunately, no one bothered to tell Yuki to play along, and she immediately points out that all of the girls in Eiji’s lolicon gallery are completely different and that he is crazy. See what the rocker lifestyle does to you? Eiji seems to be depressed but lucid after Yuki dispels the genjutsu, and he gets to work on a new song after telling Frank to get rid of all the crappy paintings he had spent a fortune on.
On Touya’s side, Menou’s manager arrives in time to grab the little skank before she can get drunk and sleep with Touya, so Touya heads to the university to flirt with Yamamoto-san of Student Affairs. She’s still pleased that he called her a goddess after she gave him the last tutoring job, and she gets Touya to agree to a dinner date with her. Unfortunately, Touya is a total cheapskate, and uses the appearance of Yayoi to skip out on the bill. Touya wonders if Yayoi is jealous, and she tells him to stop seeing other women since he already has to deal with 2 obstacles (Yuki and Rina, perhaps). As the episode ends, we see that Yuki is too tired to listen to any of Touya’s voice mails about how awesome Rina is, while Touya is too busy cheating on Yuki to listen to any of her voice mails either.
Reaction:
It seems like they are really drawing a parallel between Eiji and Touya in this episode. Suddenly it makes sense for everyone to spend time at Echoes Cafe. I guess just as all those paintings were but echoes of the painting Eiji saw in London (and can no longer remember), Touya is chasing every girl and acting like each conquest is an echo of the girl that Yuki was before she got famous. Of course Eiji is in full-fledged My Last Duchess mode to the point where he can’t even tell the difference between portrait and landscape orientation, whereas Touya only reciprocates the lust of girls with long hair like Yuki.
Yayoi was awesome once again, whether it was following Eiji’s request to get naked, get on all fours, and lick his shoes, or refusing to let an ex-employee make phone calls on the company car phone. That girl is dedicated to her job! We got a taste of the other characters, and my appetite was whetted. I don’t believe Haruka is ok for a minute, and I’m convinced she killed Mana. Meanwhile, I was giggling so much when Akira told Misaki that Touya has always been a whore and that their relationship would be over if she ever had dinner with Touya. The flashback with Tamaru made it look like there was more to his breakup with Misaki that initially revealed, and it seemed like the envelope on the table was full of money. BTW, did Frank eat Akira’s cheesecake in the scene where Akira was yelling at him? If so, awesome!
