Myrddin eat your heart out
Summary:
Continuing off episode 26, we start off with Gluttony leading Al into ‘Father’s’ room. At that instant Ed, Ling, and Envy pop out of Gluttony’s stomach and also appear before ‘Father’. As he unveils himself, Ed and Al realize that ‘Father’ looks exactly like their father, and he even seems to know who Hoenheim is, and is surprised that he has kids. Realizing that they are his important sacrifices, Father quickly patches up Al’s missing hand and Ed’s injuries without even making a transmutation circle.

That's how you fix a hand
After explaining that he views humans like how humans view insects, Ed comes to his senses and realizes that this clone of his father is no friend and immediately begins his attack. Unfortunately his attack is easily thwarted, and it is at that moment that ‘Father’ decides to do something with his powers as the next moment Ed and Al’s powers of alchemy are gone as they are not able to do anything. Meanwhile ‘Father’ realizes that Ling would become a perfect sacrifice to be the next homunculus and decides to inject a philosopher’s stone into his blood.

Yo! CPU dude from Tron, you can totally take over my body!
There he is greeted by the ‘spirit’ of Greed and in order to pursue his own agenda of becoming an immortal emperor of Xing, Lin gladly allows Greed to take over his body. With Ling now officially the ‘new’ Greed, it seems that he has no recollection of the previous Greed’s life at all. At that moment May and Scar walk into the room, where she is reunited with Shao May, and where she observes that father is both a human and not a human. It is also at that moment that Scar points out the Fullmetal Alchemist, and all of May’s fantasies about him are crushed instantly.

This part was awesome
As Ed tells Scar the truth about Envy being the real cause of the Ishbal civil war, Scar goes crazy and an epic battle between everyone ensues. It seems that ‘Father’s’ earlier actions have done nothing to stop Scar and May from using alchemy. Scar manages to get right up to ‘Father’ to try and destroy him, but his power is ineffective as ‘Father’ easily absorbs it and hurts Scar back in the process. With the bad guys winning, May, Al and Scar make a run for it. Unfortunately they are trapped by the chimeras, but Al offers to stay behind to fight as long as Scar and May can live, as Al explains that as a sacrifice, his life is guaranteed anyway.

Strike 1!
As Scar escapes, we flash back to Ed and the new Greed/Ling who are in the midst of a fierce battle. After some close calls, Ed manages to distract Greed by mentioning Ran Fan. It seems the real Ling is still trapped inside somehow. The episode ends with our heroes being recaptured by ‘Father’ and his gang.
In the prologue, we learn about the fate of Gluttony…

Noooooo gluttony!
Coming up next week: More shots of RAN FAN.
Reaction:
Wow! What an incredible episode. This episode had it all, amazing plot points, mysteries revealed, and many more added on. I’m really glad that the episode following the recap was so good. It seems they went all out in animating the huge number of fights this week as everything was beautifully choreographed and animated.
So ‘Father’ reminds me a bit of Issac Newton in Escaflowne with his big room with pipes and all. I wonder if his entire contraption is actually something that makes alchemy possible in the country of Amestris. It has been mentioned before by Scar’s brother that the way alchemy is practiced in Amestris is kind of weird, and the alchemy practiced by the people of Xing is definitely different. I’m anxiously awaiting the reveal of Scar’s brother’s journal where we will learn exactly what’s different. For now, my theory is that ‘Father’s’ contraption allows alchemy to happen the way that the people of Amestris practice it (by putting hands together and creating the circle). After doing some fancy thing to turn off the machine Ed and Al’s powers naturally subside. The machine is probably powered by something like the SOULS OF THE PEOPLE OF XERXES or something like that.
Meanwhile, there have been hints for a while now that Scar and the Elric brothers will one day be on the same team (not THAT kind of team you sickos). With Al going out of his way to save May, he just put them in the good books with Scar. Perhaps he will come back next episode to save them.
Finally we learn that the homunculus are pretty interchangeable and are also not able to truly die, even when they seemingly bite the bullet. It seems that with an acceptable host, ‘Father’ is able to create any new homunculus he wants.
So as I see it, there’s quite a few new mysteries that have opened up:
1) What exactly is Hoenheim’s relationship with ‘Father’? Is he a lost son (aka lost homunculus) or an actual relative to ‘Father’?
2) How did ‘Father’ stop alchemy from working?
3) How will Ran Fan take the news that her beloved is now Greed?
I hope to be seeing from more of our dark-haired princess next episode. For now it’s enough to say that my prediction is that Ran Fan at some point in the future will bring Ling back from being Greed to being the real Ling again.

If Father goes all UNMEI KAIHEN on us, this show gets a 10.
I loved this episode, too. Best part — GreedLing is here~ Two badasses in the same body and two badass actors voicing the same character. Damn. How do you top that?
What’s ‘UNMEI KAIHEN’ anyway… is that the fate generator thingy?
It’s the phrase Dornkirk and his cronies shout when they’re working the machine and want to change the future/fate/destiny and whatnot. It always seemed like a funny catchphrase to me.
I think you meant “her beloved” :P
The most plausible scenario seems to be that Hoenheim could be a clone of some sorts of Father’s, seeing as they look identical to each other.
As for Father’s ability to neutralise the Elric brother’s alchemy it probably has sumthin to do with the fact that they learnt it all in this country, which Father seems to be the head of (well, Wrath is anyway). Both May and Scar learnt their alchemy from different country so they are not affected.
I think that father probably is actually responsible for working Ed and Al’s alchemy… like that giant machine of his allows the putting your hands together type alchemy to work. So if he turns the machine off… no more alchemy!
1) Father is cosplaying as Hoenheim.
2) Since Father “fixed” both their bodies, he cleverly put a break in each arm, so that they didn’t have a complete alchemy circle. Fiendish!
3) INSTANT HARD ON ALL NIGHT LONG AMIRITE?!?!
Also, Scar totally stole that attack from Roy.
Lol you and Shin think alike.
Roy can only decompose water. Scar can decompose anything (that he knows the composition of).
Uhoh Kabitzin is thinking like Shin, next he’s going to tell J159 that Sawako is HIS waifu
If Kabi-kun claims Sawako, then I hope he knows that I’m also included with that package

Everyone thinks like Shin sometimes; just like how there’s a Dark Stripey in all of us.
When Father opened his third eye blind and secreted that philosopher’s stone, I was wondering if he *is* a giant walking philosopher’s stone or something – he’s the walking-talking Duracell Bunny that’s powering all the alchemy in King Bradley Country so he disconnected the Elric brothers or at least put them in a call queue where their call is important to him and an operator will speak to them shortly. May and Scar aren’t affected because the former is using the Eastern Energizer Bunny instead while the former is Prius. Or Sai, if you prefer.
