White Album 15

Summary:

As great as Touya is at sleeping in the corner, Mana tells him she doesn’t need his crappy tutoring because she’s enrolled in Haruka’s biking boot camp.  Touya is still annoyed at his dad for having a heart attack and making him a stationary target for Yuki.  With Yuki getting all this time off, Touya actually has to spend time with his girlfriend for once.  Touya spends New Years with Yuki and Yayoi at his place, while Touya’s dad gets a one day pass to spend at home with Akira and Misaki.

We see how everyone spent their holiday, as Mana and Haruka bike to a rural cabin together, Akira tries to get in Misaki’s pants, and Menou and her toadie ride on a train and watch the sun rise.  Although Touya and Yuki kiss for once, it’s a little weird having Yayoi around, and Yayoi whispers to Touya to show up at Echoes the next morning.  Surprisingly, Touya is on time, but he finds a sign on the door saying that Echoes is closed for the next few days.  In an odd twist, Eiji is inside and really worried that Yayoi and company know some secret of his, and he stays hidden inside Echoes.

Reaction:

This was a confusing episode, but I thought that Touya’s dad added a lot of interesting flavor to the story.  He noticed that his son had left, and I wonder if this will lead him to deduce his son’s infidelity.  It sounds like Touya has always be a big flake of a boyfriend, since his dad always ended up being the one talking to Yuki when she called for Touya.  It’s cool, though, because once Touya’s dad recovers and gets his heart right, he can put the memory of his late wife aside and start macking on Misaki.  It is going to be so hilarious when Akira comes over to the sound of bed-banging, and finds out that he has once again lost to a man of the Fujii clan.  Another amusing development would be Akira dumping Misaki even after years of futile chasing, once he discovers that she doesn’t put out right away.

I was bummed out by all the crying in this episode.  I can appreciate Touya’s dad being overcome by a lifetime of memories and thoughts of dying alone, but I’m starting to really hate Eiji.  What is his problem?  He is just as much of a flake as Touya is!  The painting turned out to look like his mother and this sent him into a blubber-fest over losing something, realizing the loss, and then having your lost possession right in front of you and yet being unable to grab it?  If he was that big a rock star, why didn’t he just buy the painting outright from the museum back then?  The whole thing felt really stupid, and if I was Rina, I’d shoot my baka onii-chan with my machine-gun-guitar for being such an idiot.

Misaki Mackin’ and Mick-SACK-IN~! HIS SWAGGER IS MICK JAGGER!!… =D Speaking of sacking, it would be great (for drama purposes) to see Eji forcefully getting it with Yuki, since it definitely seemed that way during his pity scene. Another good couple would be Haruka and Mana. They got that cabin all to themselves >=D

But yea, the Akira-getting-into-Misaki’s-pants scene was pretty surprising! It’s just so hard to believe that she would fall for him! All he does is complain, aaannddd I hope him and Touya duke it out, get those True-Tears flowin’ =3

This feels so wrong, I hope Akira means that “its been a month” since they started dating, and that he still aint getting any action. Man, this pairing is just annoying me. I can’t help but think Misaki doesn’t want to be with Akira, and that she’s forcing herself to be with Akira. It just doesn’t feel right to me.

I think so too. I don’t like Akira at all, although I will warm up to him if he keeps having awkward exchanges with Misaki about getting laid.

I think that Misaki went out with Akira for two reasons: guilt and guilt. She felt guilty about sorta almost stealing Yuki’s girlfriend when Touya idiotically confessed to her, and she felt guilty about putting Akira out when he helped free her from the Rods of the Lord®, knowing that he’d had a thing for her forever. So the thing with Akira is like an extended pity date that she’s allowing to drag on because he’s a convenient prophylactic against the guilt she felt over Touya.

No way Eiji will get with Yuki. It will be made to look like that’s what they’re doing, and then the camera will reveal that Yuki is just comforting a blubbering Eiji while Franky looks on.

This episode again played up the Haruka x Mana vibe, but I think it’s mostly one-sided on Mana’s part. Boy is she going to be surprised when she figures out that all of this training was a test run for dragging Touya behind their bikes to the cabin in the woods for a little Misery-style TLC and love reprogramming.

I loved how Touya foisted his dad off on Misaki and Akira, but still got stuck with Yuki anyway. And I’m wondering if the balcony kiss was under Yayoi’s orders, or if it was a little extra thrown in there by Touya to make his sugar momma jealous.

Also great this ep was how Misaki turned down Akira’s pathetic begging and he responded with “It’s already been a month!” I agree that the most logical conclusion to their relationship is for him to walk in on the Elder, more sensitive, Fujii banging his girlfriend, because Akira is never going to get enough brownie points to get into Misaki’s pants, and Mr. Fujii now has added moe appeal backing up his manly awesomeness.

I was wondering if Touya thought Yayoi would meet him for a quickie at Echoes, since Touya is typically really late to appointments.

LOLOL, but the problem would be that Mr. Fujii would want the portrait of Mrs. Fujii to watch while he got intimate with Misaki. ;)

It is somewhat sad (but also awesome) that Misaki’s best relationship choice involves a threesome with a dead woman.

I tried to resist, but in the end my lack of self-control finally got the better of me:

the problem would be that Mr. Fujii would want the portrait of Mrs. Fujii to watch while he got intimate with Misaki

Would you consider that a stiff penalty?

More like a widow of opportunity (ok, ok I know he is technically a widower).

I was trying to respond properly, but when I had to stoop to considering an offertunaistic Misaki, it all came apart. Widown’t need to go there.

Things I loved about this episode:
    1) Touya’s such a jackass he doesn’t even hug his ‘girlfriend’, he makes her walk to him and hug him.
    2) Touya still has no idea that his dad has this heart condition, probably still thinks it’s hemorrhoids
    3) The paparazzi are everywhere! (isn’t that what Eji was referring to at the end, the flash from the camera lens?)
    4) Haruka trying to snuff out Mana with her hat, couldn’t stop laughing for a while
    5) The look on Yayoi’s face when the telephone rang in her car

P.S. I don’t think that Eji crying was cause he couldn’t attain the painting, I think he meant that he couldn’t attain meeting his mother which was why he was so sad. The painting just symbolized it.

It’s great how Touya acts like he is so busy but he is unemployed (I think), and not tutoring either. So what is he so busy with that he’s annoyed at having to visit his dad?

Yayoi always gets these crazy looks on her face when she gets a call, so I hope we finally find out what was going with Rina’s fat, sweaty, ex-manager.

P.S. I don’t think that Eji crying was cause he couldn’t attain the painting, I think he meant that he couldn’t attain meeting his mother which was why he was so sad. The painting just symbolized it.

That makes sense, especially since he’s still all weepy even after winning the painting. Doesn’t he own any photographs though?

Sigh. I wish that gg was still subbing this. Even though they punch up the dialog a bit, at least I know that the translation would be somewhat accurate. After watching ep 16, something struck me as funny and I went back and watched this episode again. On the Crunchyroll translation, Misaki tells Akira to stop fooling around (or stop attempting to fool around, rather) because he’ll wake her father (she says “otousan”). When I first watched it I thought that maybe they had gone over to Misaki’s house for a bit, but if I had paid attention to what my eyes were telling me, they were in the Fujii’s spare room, and Misaki would have been referring to Mr. Fujii. Once I got over my annoyance at the translation issues I realized that Misaki had already arrived at an answer for the ever popular question: “Who’s your daddy!?”
