As great as Touya is at sleeping in the corner, Mana tells him she doesn’t need his crappy tutoring because she’s enrolled in Haruka’s biking boot camp. Touya is still annoyed at his dad for having a heart attack and making him a stationary target for Yuki. With Yuki getting all this time off, Touya actually has to spend time with his girlfriend for once. Touya spends New Years with Yuki and Yayoi at his place, while Touya’s dad gets a one day pass to spend at home with Akira and Misaki.
We see how everyone spent their holiday, as Mana and Haruka bike to a rural cabin together, Akira tries to get in Misaki’s pants, and Menou and her toadie ride on a train and watch the sun rise. Although Touya and Yuki kiss for once, it’s a little weird having Yayoi around, and Yayoi whispers to Touya to show up at Echoes the next morning. Surprisingly, Touya is on time, but he finds a sign on the door saying that Echoes is closed for the next few days. In an odd twist, Eiji is inside and really worried that Yayoi and company know some secret of his, and he stays hidden inside Echoes.

This was a confusing episode, but I thought that Touya’s dad added a lot of interesting flavor to the story. He noticed that his son had left, and I wonder if this will lead him to deduce his son’s infidelity. It sounds like Touya has always be a big flake of a boyfriend, since his dad always ended up being the one talking to Yuki when she called for Touya. It’s cool, though, because once Touya’s dad recovers and gets his heart right, he can put the memory of his late wife aside and start macking on Misaki. It is going to be so hilarious when Akira comes over to the sound of bed-banging, and finds out that he has once again lost to a man of the Fujii clan. Another amusing development would be Akira dumping Misaki even after years of futile chasing, once he discovers that she doesn’t put out right away.
I was bummed out by all the crying in this episode. I can appreciate Touya’s dad being overcome by a lifetime of memories and thoughts of dying alone, but I’m starting to really hate Eiji. What is his problem? He is just as much of a flake as Touya is! The painting turned out to look like his mother and this sent him into a blubber-fest over losing something, realizing the loss, and then having your lost possession right in front of you and yet being unable to grab it? If he was that big a rock star, why didn’t he just buy the painting outright from the museum back then? The whole thing felt really stupid, and if I was Rina, I’d shoot my baka onii-chan with my machine-gun-guitar for being such an idiot.
