All the naked guys pour into the mall and immediately go to find their cell phones. Yutaka’s transmission was too large for the EotE cell phones, so Haruo brings the information up on Mikuru’s laptop while Saki explains what really happened on Careless Monday. Akira posted up some information about Ryo’s first attack, and gathered up 20,000 NEET volunteers to help evacuate the 6 missile targets. Unfortunately, the situation was weird and the evacuees were trolled into becoming suspcious of the NEETs for having so much information (and also occassionally looting the abandoned homes). To shield the NEETs, Akira pretended to be the terrorist and then shipped all of the NEETs to Dubai for 3 months, before wiping his own memory.
The boys of EotE strip down to blend in, and while their pale skin and full hair gives them away, they are able to retrieve Mikuru’s laptop from the NEETs. This ends up being a wasted effort, however, when Akira suddenly pushes a transmission to all the NEET and EotE phones telling them to come to the roof and figure out a way to stop the missiles from hitting Japan. Juiz picks the best suggestion, and hacks into the Patriot Missile System to shoot down all the incoming Tomahawks. As Akira watches with Saki, the plan succeeds and a still-alive Yutaka cheers from his hospital bed. However, Akira knows that this incident will be even harder to cover up and asks Juiz to use his remaining funds to make him the King of Japan. As he carries Saki in his arms, Akira gets another memory wipe and slips his phone into Saki’s pocket.

Although this is the final TV episode, there will be two movies to complete the story. The King of Eden will be aired on November 28 2009, and Paradise Lost will be shown sometime in January of 2010.
While this episode was exciting, I had a lot of issues with how things played out. How can Akira become King of Japan for about half of his original budget? And why wouldn’t the Supporter immediately come and kill Akira for exhausting the budget without saving Japan? How can the Selecao phones lack a way to recharge the phone and yet keep a charge longer than other phones (e.g. Saki’s)? What’s up with some of these wacky strategies for saving Japan? Was that old taxi driver supposed to be Saizo? How did that one NEET get back after only two months and score clothes and a fiance? And who was that lady that Akira stole Mameshiba from? I liked the theme of Akira reluctantly taking responsibility and power when so many smart individuals shy away, but I’m not sure how this will play out.
It’s funny that the solution was crowd-sourcing, and I think Yutaka’s going to have to tweak his Social Computer because rumors of his death were grossly exaggerated. I really liked that Akira spent the last moments with Saki, but I was sad that they never got to ride the merry-go-round like in the promo art. I wonder if Saki got the phone so that she can stop Akira from spending his final yen and getting killed, and if that is the plan I wonder how long Akira has before he falls afoul of the rule requiring funds be used regularly (not this even applies to Jintaro, apparently). It’s going to be a long wait until the movies come out, but I’m excited to see how this story gets wrapped up, especially now that Akira doesn’t have memories or magical phone powers.
