Eden of the East 07

Summary:

The EotE club recognizes their mascot charm on the bag in the photo posted to the love advice BBS, and they’re sure it’s Satoshi. When Akira notices that one poster (Overly Loving) wrote that “The accomplice’s name is Juiz,” he jumps on his bike and dials up Juiz for some intel on the Johnny Taker. Akira learns that Kuroha is the president of the Aomori Foreign Model Agency, “Monolom,” and she owns the members-only Insomnia Hotel in Roppongi (staying in 1109 under the alias Roppongi Hanako). To buy some time, Akira has Kuroha stopped by a cop, but Kuroha fights back by causing a tanker accident on the highway.

Eventually, Akira is able to use his helmet to break into room 1109, but the masked man turns out to be some random rapist who stole Satoshi’s bag. Akira is surprised to hear Kuroha accuse him of planning Careless Monday, but the two of them eventually begin talking. Kuroha wants to de-penis Japanese men and replace them with hot foreigners, but she knows she won’t win the game. Akira seeks to comfort her with his loving Johnny, but he faints from a rib injury before he can make out with Kuroha. As Saki bursts into the room, she finds a bandaged (but otherwise naked) Akira and Kuroha sprouts a pair of wings and flies out of the room.

Reaction:

I love how Akira frivolously bought Insomnia for ¥1.5232 billion but then Kuroha bought it right back for ¥1.687 billion. Awesome flipping, and I laughed when Kuroha wondered how the price could have gone up by so much in just a few minutes. I think Akira actually increased his phone’s balance during the course of the episode, in spite of using the phone balance for stupid things like tolls (which lets other Selecao track his movements). Then again, Kuroha seems equally silly by using her money to buy a Suigintou illusion kit. Since Kuroha didn’t know that Saki was going to bust in, this means Kuroha wasted her money on the helicopter-illusion thinking that no one would see it. Kuroha didn’t even get the snipped Johnny, so that means she’ll have to pay the rental fee again.

The talk between Kuroha and Akira was rather odd. That was some heavy flirting, the way Akira wanted to put his Johnny to the test to see if it could give Kuroha love. Meanwhile, Saki could hear the whole thing. I admire her impressive endurance in running that entire distance to the hotel and I imagine she was extremely confused by what she just saw. I also wonder if pre-memory wipe Akira eventually came to the conclusion that he couldn’t depend on foreigners to save Japan.

Oh crap, forgot to take my Viagra… better pretend to faint

Austin: No! Its not you Felicity! Its my MOJO!!!

Honestly, I still don’t understand that scene, it was like, Felicity was all “Oh! So it was just ur MOJO! Why didn’t you tell me?!” and then they’re on good terms again. Err, but yea, the actual Akira x Kuroha scene was nice! You know she really wanted his Johnny, but Akira just doesn’t have the stuff, or the endurance at least.

I was somewhat speechless during the whole flying scene, but then we realize it was all an illusion. There really are no bounds to that cellphone huh? Like, are those movie-effect-people just camping in that hotel or something? I’m interested in what they come up (hyuk) with next  especially where the whole Akira x Kuroha relationship is going! =3 (poor Saki :( … i’d Sack her… and slider!)

I continue to be gobsmacked by how quickly Juiz responds to requests. Hits with corrupt cops or having the prime minister go ‘gyahun!’ are one thing, but to have a whole illusion set up and ready to go at a moment’s notice? Unless Kuroha prepared for the moment where her secret base would be discovered and had Juiz set up the entire illusion beforehand …

I’m wondering if Juiz’s has the power to implant thoughts in people’s minds. The would explain the mechanism of several very quick responses. OK, she also charges for a “bribe” that may or may not have ever happened. Did the airport guy really get a golf club membership? Who knows. Anyhow, that would explain the illusion. It was all a Jedi mind trick – “pay no attention to that helicopter out the window…isn’t it amazing how I have wings just like the crows behind me”. No amazing special effects team necessary, except maybe for the window. As a bonus, direct projection into the minds of bystanders explains why Takizawa dreamt of the same thing.

It would also make the Selecao budget a little more sensible. It’s not that Juiz/Mr. Outside think they handed out enough money to change society. They handed out enough money to make it believable that Juiz can accomplish some pretty amazing things, and now they’re sitting back to see if anything that the chosen 12 ask for (a) can be done by projecting suggestions, and (b) can be scaled up to affect most of Japan. How did Takizawa persuade 20000 NEETS to let themselves be stuffed into shipping containers? – Jedi mind tricks. At least some of them came back as more productive members of society? – cheap success.
