Sorry Saki, your loser friend is in another castle
There haven’t been too many changes this month, and I’m still looking to make some progress on my backlog. I’ve seen several sources recommending Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ but I haven’t had the time yet to check out the latest episodes.
Top Five This Month:
- Eden of the East: Imagine if Kuroha intercepted Akira’s shipping containers and sent the containers onto Dubai a few pounds lighter? After leaving the hotel room, I bet Kuroha flew to a con, tucked in one wing, and drove all the jealous cosplayers into a frenzy.
- Hatsukoi Limited: These stories are still so simplistic and yet enjoyable. HL continues to deliver a great product in spite of the average art and average story ideas. Also, between this and Shangri-la, I am starting to believe in the powers of lollipops.
- Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Getting me to enjoy rewatching stuff I’ve already seen is an impressive feat. As with last month, FMA remains very brisk and fulfilling.
- Valkyria Chronicles: OMG story?! I’m also looking forward to more character development for soldiers not named Ramal.
- Sengoku Basara: It’s still really stupid, but the over-the-top battles put my mind to sleep like an action-packed lullaby. Gundam-esque Tadakatsu was really incredible, and I want to see more beef between Mitsuhide and Nobunaga.
Rising:
- Shangri-la: This is the first series in recent memory where I don’t like any of the main characters and yet I am still interested in the plot. I so badly want CG MEDUSA to bust out of the screen like Sadako and start eating people, but for now I’ll content myself with watching Mikuni juice liars and slather on SPF 9000 sunscreen.
Falling:
- Suzumiya Haruhi: I’m glad it’s back, but could the marketing for this franchise be any more aggravating? I like my new anime episodes the way I like my crack—undiluted.
- Tears to Tiara: I’ve had enough of Arawn’s harem. As much as I like to see seals burned in fires, Arawn is a lot more interesting than his floozies. I am also extremely upset that there was no mention of massive damage on the Giant Enemy Crabs.

About Kabitzin: One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well-choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns. |

Ah you put haruhi suzumiya twice
LOL! If this is a joke, I’m not getting it (other than the Giant Enemy Crab part)… but if it isn’t a joke… yea, I still don’t get it =/

/facepalm
The second time was meant to be Tears to Tiara… Damn copypasta messup.
So you understand why there’s so much Kadokawa Shoten hate going around?
VC is really damn good. I’m playing the game now and the story is really epic and the characters are well-developed, with a couple of genuinely touching scenes. Possibly the greatest game + anime combo so far??
That is encouraging, and perhaps the epic story will justify the 2-cour length.
I’m tempted to start watching Shangri-La again, especially after the reviews for episode 8… just to see how bad it has gotten.
It’ll be a while until FMA actually gets to the good parts. We still have Al’s emo episode plus Greed’s arc to get through, so still one or two months of rehashes.
Yeah, but I think I checked and this series is going something like 3 times as fast as the first one. I though through 7 episodes of this series we’re already through something like 20 episodes of the 1st season. I knew it was going faster, but I didn’t realize it was going that much faster until I looked.
Yeah I went back to the old reviews and the speed is incredible. I wonder how long it will be before we get some really new material.
You’re one of the few people I’ve seen who has really talked positively about FMA. I love the fast pace, it really sunk in on the last episode just where in the story we are… and what a difference.
Also, best tagline in ages but it puts Happy Wanderer in my head and I can’t stop it replaying.
By now, Phantom definitely belongs in the top5 in my book. AT LEAST at rank 3. I’d say it’s the most underrated drama noir I’ve seen in a long time.
Yeah, I had Phantom ranked #3 narrowly in my list a week or so ago and since then I’ve caught all the way back up and it’s a solid #3 on my list right now. In a way, it reminds me a lot of Nijuu Mensou (on how and why I like it, not plot or story), just as long as it doesn’t go down the weird road as it progresses like NM did. NM was still good, but I did start to sour on it by the end.
Oh man, 20 faces… is this a good thing or a bad thing? NM got so bad towards the end… Show ▼
I thought you knew the game? Phantom isn’t gonna get down the NM path at all ^_^;
Anyway, Phantom is seriously underrated. It got ALOT better after ep1 and the most recent episode 8 was simply excellent. Looking forward to more!
Ah, Ender was the one who reviewed the game. I’m starting to watch my backlog of Phantom episodes, and so far so good.
Glad to see you finally caved in and put Basara in its rightful place.
