Is Konan's flower made out of wax paper?
In order to change the world, Yahiko decides the trio have to find a ninja to train them. Jiraiya ends up being the sucker, and he’s not too keen about it until Nagato unwittingly used his rinnegan to kill some random ninja scrub that attacked them. Everyone becomes a big happy family over the next three years, and the trio gets pretty strong. Jiraiya tells them about how the Sage of the Six Paths first recognized the true meaning of chakra and spread ninja techniques as a sort of religion for peace. They called the Sage the Messiah, and Jiraiya believed that Nagato was the reincarnation of the Sage.
Unfortunately, while the three of them were fairly strong, they were also fairly dumb. Hanzo decided their gang was a threat and invited the trio to come meet him for a diplomatic mission. Hanzo was afraid to lose control of the Amegakure, and at the meeting he takes Konan hostage. With the help of Danzo and Konoha’s black ops squad, Hanzo took Konan hostage and threatened to kill her unless Nagato killed the gang leader, Yahiko.

To save his two friends, Yahiko then impaled himself on Nagato’s kunai. Nagato was thrown into another whirlwind of angst from this second source of pain, and he felt his answer of peace was worthless… but not as worthless as this flashback.
If only you had practiced those eye exercises like I told you to...
So Hanzo just killed Nagato’s puppy and his best friend. Next we are going to find out that Hanzo went out with Konan on a date and never called her back. That would complete the trifecta. Since Nagato has already killed Hanzo (and I bet he also killed Hanzo’s pet giant salamander), Danzo is up next, and he’s looking like the big enemy that Nagato and Sasuke can angst at together. I don’t know what will happen if Nagato and Sasuke both hang out for a chapter, but I am afraid we will get a long flashback that turns out to be a genjutsu illusion. Also, I bet Naruto will cry like a big baby next chapter.

So in the end it was mostly Nagato’s own fault for not using his awesome Rinnegan to get his buddies out of the situation.
Nagato and Sasuke hanging out together? that’d be too much emo in one place lol.
