The proper term for Juiz is Yiddish
I’ve been trying to make the site a little easier on the eyes, so I’ll be experimenting with images at the top of Progress Sheets. I’ve also been bumping up contrasts with Curves in Photoshop, but I don’t know if anyone noticed this month. Anyway, this month wasn’t too bad, and a few shows surprised me.
Top Five This Month:
- Eden of the East: This show is so mysterious, and there is such attention paid to details. I like just about every part of this show so far, from the characters to the story to the music to the directing.
- Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: It hasn’t been that different from the first FMA, but I think the pace has been snappier. Everything has looked great, and I have enjoyed watching the great characters do their thing.
- Hatsukoi Limited: This feels like love comedy with less emphasis on originality and more on execution. And that is how I like it.
- Tears to Tiara: I love how they make Arthur seem like a badass while he’s killing 65,340,285 boars in the forest, and yet the OP immediately reveals that Arthur will end up as Arawn’s apple-holding bitch. For a fairly generic RPG/eroge conversion, the choreography has been stellar. I totally fall for cheap slow-motion battle moves, too.
- Shangri-la: Even though the character art is disappointing and I can’t stand most of the characters themselves, I’ve started to warm up to Shangri-la’s story. Still, can we just agree that economics are extremely boring no matter how many lolis you throw at the viewer? It didn’t work in Spice and Wolf and it doesn’t really work here either.
Rising:
- Saki: It’s kinda moe-pandering with absurd boobs, and yet I am completely distracted by the cool flashing lights and tile moves.
- Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~: The past few episodes have been decent, and I was surprised to see anyone in a Bee Train show has to train. I’m still wary that things will devolve into a tangled mess of flashbacks and extremely slow pacing, though.
Falling:
- K-ON!: This show is decent in spite of KyoAni, which is unusual because KyoAni typically adds something special to its conversions. If I had been a fan of the manga before the show aired, I would be disappointed with the anime.
- Valkyria Chronicles: I still like the show, but the battles are really dumb…

The FMA manga storyline is snappier compared to the old anime, so that’s no surprise there. Hatsukoi is silly fun, and watching Valkyria Chronicles for its battles is probably a bad idea lol.
I’m sorry, but so far Shangri-la absolutely pisses me off. I mean…..I like Boomerang Girl and two other characters whose names I don’t know (I know Boomerang Girl isn’t a real name either I just like to call her that). I’m sticking with it so far, and I haven’t seen the latest episode yet. I’m glad for you that you find it good, I only wish I could.
That being said, I may check out Eden of the East….I’ve been hearing good things about it. Same goes for Hatsukoi Limited, but probably not until they’re almost completed.
FMA def looks a lot better, and I think that they’re going to slow the pace down after this anime covers all of the aspects from the manga that were already covered by the first FMA series, then when they start following the manga (which the first series did not do at all, but was still really good), they’re gonna milk this cash cow for all it’s worth.
Am I the only one not liking Eden of the East!? Ugh.
I don’t see Sengoku Basara anywhere on that list; I thought you liked it?
Sengoku Basara is fun, but let’s be honest; it’s just dumb, flamboyant entertainment.
I must say, Sengoku Basara is one of my favorites of the season, even if it is dumb, flamboyant entertainment, it’s still entertainment in the end, and that’s all I really care about when it’s all said and done.
Amen to Eden of the East, though Valkyria is enjoyable even only for Alicia’s escalating number of WTH? facial expressions.
man… still haven’t seen the new FMA… even Steven Wonder is ahead of me in epi-count! D= Oh, but the good thing is that I hear they have dat girl-pup-monster thing die! As much of an ass as I ass ass may sound, I totally enjoyed that part in the original! It like, just rips your heart apart. For most, its a terrible feeling, but for me, its heaven
Actually, I did notice a difference, I was like, “Whoa! All of a sudden my monitor became brand new again!”

Eden of the East is just amazing so far. I haven’t been drawn into a series like this since the first couple episodes of Geass, but what Geass did with absurdity, this is doing with logical and realistic steps. I hope this keeps up the quality, and i hope the character development continues.
i dont understand. what did you mean by it doesnt work for spice and wolf. alot of people enjoyed it including me because of the business aspect of it and not just the run in the mill fantasy crap we always get from numerous generic series.
I just can’t get behind Saki, maybe if I was able to enjoy the flashing lights it’d be great but I keep wanting to… understand the game. And it’s beyond me.
As for Eden, you’re right, the details really drive it home as a well-done show. Plus, it’s about time someone pandered to movie nerds instead of little-sister-fetishists (sorry Shin).
Although technically Saki is a little sister…
FWIW, I’d say that Phantom _easily_ makes top5, if not top3.
