White Album 07

Summary:

There is a small scene with Mana finding that her mom has left her some sushi and called the tutoring center to switch tutors again. Both of Mana’s parents are on the road a lot, and she goes through tutors like it’s 1986. When Touya shows up, he begs Mana to keep him on as a tutor, and yet he discovers that she is clearly too smart to need a tutor. He also tells her that he is not cheating on Yuki with Misaki. This seems to be a common misconception, and when Rina comes by Echoes, she comes to the same conclusion (since Misaki is always with Touya and she is sewing at his Dad’s place).

Although Rina and Eiji tease Touya about Misaki, they seem to believe his crazy story. Rina has a new idea to challenge Yuki and up sales for both of them. Touya is taken to the (pointless) secret underground room, and watches Rina take her singing to a whole ‘nother level. While Yuki endures the torment of the Sakura-dan, Haruka sobs for Touya outside his door, spamming his doorbell and clawing the door until Touya’s pissed off neighbor tells her to knock it off.

Reaction:

Mana was pretty funny in this episode, talking trash about the M3 productions and the Sakura-dan, bashing Touya’s university, and hypothesizing that Touya has an ugly girlfriend with the same name as a famous idol. It also sounds like Mana is somehow connected to Yuki. However, as the series passes the halfway mark, I wonder if perhaps the harem will never materialize. It looks like Misaki might be the only one who really covets Touya, whereas Haruka is just some completely insane girl who is using Touya as a stand-in for her dead brother (whom she probably wants to sleep and then stroll with).

I liked Rina’s idea, but when this happened in Macross Frontier, the incumbent’s CD went on firesale discount and the manager almost took over the universe… Speaking of Yayoi, although Yuki called her off this time, there is no way Yayoi will take this kind of crap from the Sakura-dan. I theorize that Yayoi will quickly seduce and destroy all of their boyfriends and fathers, obliterating all sense of family and romance in the lives of those jealous bitches. Also, Eiji needs to learn how to cackle and drive at the same time, or this will be an even shorter series than it already is.

About Kabitzin:
One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well-choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns.

    I think what Rina really suggested to Eiji (not Yuki – the cheesecake bribe with Touya included was what patched her up) was to sing a duet with Yuki. This would jumpstart her career.

      Ranka and Sheryl had a duet too… a duet with murderous undertones! Perhaps the conflict that Rina was hinting at was conflict against M3 and Sakura-dan; that would make sense too.

    If Rina and Yuki really “duel”, I think it’s more along the line of a friendly one not a “I’m better than you and I’ll get the guy” kind.

    I’m really rooting for Yuki because she’s really doing alot for her career. But seriously, why Touya of all people? I don’t mind about his GAR father throwing him out or that he ‘tries’ to consider other people’s feelings, but at least let him not lie or have one stable job even if it’s being a tutor.

    I’m definitely counting Haruka, the lost puppy, and Misaki, becoming yandere maybe, out of the running. Yayoi and Mana are possibilities. At the end, it’s still Rina and Yuki. If Touya still chooses Yuki after all that drama, I might consider him a pretty decent guy.

    @Mentar

    Actually I’m hoping the ‘challenge’ would be that Rina would declare her love for Touya. That would be pretty interesting, and it would finally set off the harem angle that we’ve all been waiting for.

    (Oops completely forgot about the ‘reply’ button, it’s too new a feature!)

      Epi: I don’t see “her love for Touya” so far. I simply don’t. We expect(ed) it all the time, but so far, it didn’t materialize. May this change? Yes. But for the time being, Rina spelled it out: She wants to keep Touya close to her under her supervision, so that he doesn’t fool around with other women – for Yuki’s sake – and as a side-effect, to make him more available to her. We could see during the recording session how important that is to Yuki.

        Hard to say at this moment. There was that part where Rina was waiting for Touya at the train station. You’re right, it’s probably too early for her to outright declare her love for Touya, but it’s there subconsciously. There’s really no platonic relationship between the two as Touya doesn’t see her as a friend, but as someone who may like her, so I really don’t think their relationship will blossom to an actual friendship the way say Ryuji and Taiga are good friends.

      I agree with Mentar, Rina has yet to show any overt interest in Touya and for now seems only to want to keep him faithful to Yuki, as Rina knows how important the loser is to her. It’s half way in and we still have yet to see Rina want Touya all to herself. Personally since Rina knows all of Touya’s abundance of flaws I hope she never actually goes for it. Let’s not forget that Rina has already come to the conclusion that Touya is faithless, always late, and isn’t the cream of the crop.

    All we know is that Rina plans on boosting Yuki’s career, though with the mention of war I suspect that Rina will put Yuki on the front line against the Red Menace, that is known as Sakura-dan.

    Yayoi has been utterly worthless though, she’s bigger than than those goddamn Reds, she could have taken on all of them easily. Still it was the funniest ep so far with Touya telling his bald faced lie about working hard. Haruka’s breakdown was hilarious because she looked like she was trying to get in through the mail slot. Alte Kampfer Fujii must be incredibly disappointed in his son, at least in his old age he’s still doing pull ups, when Touya reaches his age, Touya will be living under a highway.

      Crusader, what should Yayoi have done? Jumped at them and slapped them silly? Hey, fine with me, but that would have ended her professional career. Can’t have that ^_^;

      I agree with the rest though ;)

        Well, I got the impression that Yayoi was going to start spamming the slap button, until Yuki called her off.

    Looks like I was right about Haruka, Touya was smart to not include her in his and MIsaki’s little prep-work.

    Also, she wins the “most likely to be a Yandere” award for the series.

    One thing about the secret underground bar. I kept expecting it to be a secret underground CHOCOLATE bar.

    Even though it will (sadly) never materialize, I yearn for the part where Yayoi takes down the Sakura-dan. And though Touya is obviously not responsible for the depths of Haruka’s crazy, he could at least leave her a damn note….

      From ASPCA:

      Very social animals, dogs prefer to be with others. When left alone, some companion canines become very distressed, suffering from an attachment disorder known as separation anxiety. Dogs who suffer from separation anxiety just can’t learn to cope with being alone, and they express their anxiety by barking, howling, whining, chewing, soiling, and/or attempting to escape. Usually, you can diagnose separation anxiety if the dog becomes anxious and worried or severely depressed as you prepare to leave, and acts as though you’ve been gone for years when you return!

      Separation anxiety is often triggered by a traumatic event or disruption in the dog’s lifestyle, such as a change in the family’s work schedule, an adjustment in the family composition, the death of another pet, a move to a new home, or being boarded or hospitalized for a period of time.

      Oh great, next she’s going to start soiling herself…

      I too want to see Yayoi take on Sakura-dan. It could be like Dynasty Warriors, only so much better.

        Well I guess he could leave some newspaper instead of a note, but since he’s obviously not going to throw her a bone… I foresee her playing in traffic to get the sympathy hospital visit.

        This Haruka-bashing is so mean, but at the same time I can’t help wondering if she became a tennis star after many long days of fetching tennis balls.
