Shikabane Hime: Aka 11

Summary:

When Kamika can’t find Sougen’s Sutra, Rika realizes that the brilliant Sutra lining Keisei’s ghetto level 2.5 Robe of Protection (with extra shikimi and boke) were written by Sougen. Although the Sutra contain some national secrets, Rika agrees to keep the robe for Keisei (but really for Ouri, I think), just in case. Keisei then cooks Ouri some birthday stew for the party tomorrow and promises Ouri a limited edition 1:1 scale Pujito figure. It’s clear that Keisei might not come out alive from his fight with Akasha. Akasha tells Shichisei that they must kill CP and SH to weaken the Shuhouha (faction of prayers) and allow Bishop Gon’s Shujouha (faction of living beings) to take over Kougon Cult.

Keisei tells of how he was an orphan when he was taken in by the priest Hoshimura Tendou. He watched Makina grow up only to find the temple burned down 10 years after he met Ouri. Keisei had wanted to fight by himself without taking advantage of SH, but he was the only one who could bond with Makina and prevent her from becoming a shikabane. This is how Makina volunteered to become a SH. Akasha and once-priest Kowaku finally show up at the orphanage to fight. Akasha’s cube has much fewer than 108 souls, and so his Zadan is totally gimped. However, Ouri went and got his fool self possessed by Ena. When Keisei finds Ouri wandering the halls, Ouri pulls out a Vajra and stabs Keisei in the gut.

Reaction:

This was a great episode, with some answers and some new questions. I noticed that Akasha looked kinda watery to Hokuto, unlike Ouri. Kowaku also mentioned that if Akasha knew what was inside Ouri, Akasha would puke. Just what the heck is Ouri?! The flashback to Makina’s brother showed a tall teenage boy with blue hair, so I guess Makina’s brother is not important after all. As for Akasha, it is hilarious that he got centipeded by Hazama and then turned into the Shichisei chauffeur. From how crappy his Zadan was, you could tell Akasha filled the cube back up with red wine and ketchup. Akasha also mentioned that he discovered the truth about SH that fateful date he killed his SH, but there were no clues about what that truth was.

The flashback to when Akasha looked up to Keisei had some unintentional comedy as well. The way Akasha and Sadahiro talked about getting contracted as soon as possible made it seem like they were worried about becoming the 40-Year-Old Uncontracted Priest. Ever since Minai’s death, I’ve been sure that Keisei would die so that Ouri could take over Makina’s contract (since he didn’t take Minai’s). However, I doubt that Ouri killed Keisei with that stab, since we saw Keisei crack open a cold one (of Shouma) before the fight against Akasha started. Damn, Keisei is like that guy who steals all the consumables from the guild bank and never replaces them!
