With our three heroes running out of attack options against Mosquite, Soul Eater decides to take a risk and use the power of the black blood through his (terrible) piano playing to activate chain resonance with Black Star, Maka, and Death the Kid. The risk paid off, and the three are able to turn the tide of the battle and beat back Mosquito with brute force. Each of them manages to land their resonator attack, and Maka finishes the job by “accidentally” releasing Demon Hunter with the assistance of Soul’s resonating piano action. However, despite their attacks, Mosquito manages to get away by detaching his head from his body right after Maka lands the Demon Hunter, and they realized that Mosquito had gotten away with BREW.
Team Ox manages to meet up with Team Maka, but they realize that they don’t have much time until the magnetic fields will disintegrate their bodies. SO they make their way out of the magnetic field and escape off the island with Mary, Sid, and Stein, who’s convulsing beyond belief from the madness.
Back at Arachne’s hideout, Mosquito finds that BREW is broken, but Arachne figures that she can use the image of having BREW to her advantage. In addition, she’s continuing the worldwide construction of the moral manipulator device. Meanwhile, what really happened was that Mizune had scampered to find and steal BREW first, and she and Elka brought it to Medusa, who has her own diabolical plans…
Back at Shibusen, our heros are felling down since they think they let BREW slip into the hands of Arachne. But this doesn’t stop Kid from conducting his own investigation to what Shinigama-sama is truely up to with all the demon weapons given all that he has seen so far. He decides to go question Stein about what BREW is and such, and Steins tells him about how BREW is able to amplify the wielder’s abilities, but he pessimistically says that Kid and others would probably be too weak to stop whomever weilds it. Meanwhile, Maka is a bit perplexed at how she was able to release demon hunter when she only intended for witch hunter, After some sweet talk from Shinigami-sama saying how her mother also had the awesome ability, Maka goes to do some training with Soul Eater to try and release Demon Hunter again, but without Soul Eater’s black blood powers, she just ends up tiring herself out. Meanwhile, Chrona is starting to regret helping Medusa out after talking to Elka who had told her that she’s basically responsible for taking Marie and Stein out of battle. Lastly, Buttadaki Joe, an engineer, arrives from Europe under the orders of Shinigami-sama.
In his meeting with Shinigami-sama, Buttadaki Joe is brought in for some top secret project, but under the condition that Shinigami-sama changes all coffee to be roasted from free beans from Uncle Bob’s shop! BJ also runs into Kid who questions his intentions in Shibusen, but BJ brushes him off. At first look though, his task seems to be to disassemble the demon tools that are in Shibusen’s possessions.
With his last several battles ending up in defeat, Black Star finds himself in a bad mood and searches within himself to shake himself up and get his confidence back. In the process, he decides to take on Kidd in a duel to “level” himself up, but Kid beats him to a pulp in the process. From there, Black Star realizes that he has to start training to progress with his powers.
