Kannagi 07

Summary:

Nagi and Jin had a fight and we see that Jin is besieging Nagi’s stronghold (Jin’s closet). Nagi has stocked up on snacks, raided several drinks, brought her magic stick for light, and opened up Jin’s collection of ero-magazines for entertainment, and even with Tsugumi and Zange’s help Jin cannot break Nagi’s defenses. It seems Jin’s only hope is Meguru, but the otaku is taking his sweet time delivering the mysterious package to Jin’s house. Meanwhile, Takako and Shino drop by because Takako wanted to return the KamaPure eroge that she borrowed from Meguru. “Too-shy-shy girl” Tsugumi then realizes that both Takako and Meguru have been fapping to Tsugumi and Nagi’s likeness all along…

Eventually we find out why Nagi and Jin are fighting. Last night while Nagi was taking a bath, Jin saw Heart-Throbbing Cat-Filled Land airing on TV and figured Nagi would like it. He then inserted a VHS tape to tape it, only to find out later that he recorded over Nagi’s copy of Lolikko Cutie (the climax of the Imposter-Cutie Chapter). Meguru finally arrives with his recorded copies of the episode, but his copies are in BluRay and Beta Max formats. With no other options, Jin sits in front of the closet and gives a heartfelt apology; unfortunately, since Nagi was in another room raiding snacks, she didn’t hear any of it (though she forgives him anyway).

Reaction:

This episode was a little boring at first, but it really ramped up towards the end. And getting to see the highlights from Lolikko Cutie was so awesome! That episode had a presidential assasination, loli fighting against matured loli, toast-in-mouth being defeated by trucks, hair tentacles, talking staff in breast, and lolification. I felt like I was watching Nanoha no Maid Guy Frontier!

It was hard to get adequate time for everyone with so many characters in this episode, but everyone had their moments. Nagi didn’t appear much but she did great in short bursts with her stick and ero-fanning. I can’t believe Jin is still using VHS, especially in Japan. Does he not have a computer at least? I’m also surprised that Nagi didn’t watch the tape yet, considering she doesn’t really have anything to do all day. If Jin had been peeping on Nagi instead of trying to help her tape cats, none of this would have happened.

Second rate? Akiba’s problem is he’s TOO far ahead of the curve.

Ignorance is bliss, I guess. Even Konata (Lucky Crap) was using a VCR. Well, PCs are really not as wide-spread as elsewhere in the world. You’re some kind of uberdorky geek if you have one. That’s why game consoles sell so well over there and even mobile phones are more important as software platform. Though I could imagine that they are not allowed to suggest use of VDRs (Would somebody please think about the commercials?!?1) or … worse. I mean the whole idea of missing an episode is so 1990.

I’m not so sure whether it was product placement or if they weren’t really just making fun S*ny. A normal person would have used a USB stick, SD card or DVD for a single episode. Heck, most portable audio players can play videos nowadays. What kind of second rate geek is Akiba?

The guys with the latest and most expensive equipment are usually the ones with the least technical knowledge. That’s also why I think they’re making fun of S*ny the whole time not just with his final sentence. Every dumbf*ck knows that a BRD is just a storage medium and has nothing to do with quality. Not to mention that HDTV is frequently worse than DVD. As said there are better storage media for a single TV episode, you don’t need a 50 GB coaster. I’d scream bloody product placement, if S*ny wasn’t the ass of the jokes.

Nagi: If you miss any episode ever again, just call me! We can watch it on my portable any time.

I thought this episode was a great example of how “nothing happening” can still be pretty damn entertaining. And Tsugumi is becoming more dangerously adorable every time I see her. >_<

I thought it was hilarious how Tsugumi brought over eggs, vegetables, and eggs with vegetables. I didn’t understand why she asked if the eggs in the bento tasted good a while back, but I do now!

Tsugumi is dangerously adorable, yes, but Takako is hilarious. Great voice acting through this whole thing.

As for Sony, I think it’s product placement (omo mentioned A1 is owned by them) but in a tongue in cheek way. Comparing blu-ray to betamax in the year that will decide whether blu-ray doesn’t sound like a 100% sony-sanctioned method of product placement.

I definitely hate when they tease us like this. Of course, all of us were hoping Jin JAMMED IT IN or something equally perverted, but also knew it was going to be something completely different. Well, at least there were cats I say, Or rather, Say I, Cats were there, Least, At Well! *drinks cappuccino while everyone else snaps their fingers*

I thought Jin was filing the stereotype of the Japanese keeping it retro (like for instance, the Japanese still playing their Dreamcast… Poor Sega will always wear that cast! *CHUCKLE*). I used to always use my VCR to record late night anime on Cartoon Network. Ah, those were the days :3 (ten year old VCR that still works like a charm  … of course, I moved on to digital. Can anyone say $100 SEAGATE 1TB HARDDRIVE!?!?!)

@ Chris: ..you…you..y-y-y-y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y YOU HATE SONY TOO!?!?! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:Dx159 *is now officially tsun-gay for Chris* *sniff* Chris, I forgive you for all those times you mistreated me, and I’ll even forgive you for the time you didn’t accept my heart-filled jar of peace cookies!

That is an interesting way of putting it, but I still think its product placement (perhaps the Director is a Sony fanboy). I mean, they also had the Vaio laptop in, not one, but TWO episodes!… but then again, they also made Jin shake and rattle the laptop when he was angry.

If they really are making fun of Sony, then my god, they have won my heart over! I found it funny (and a little disturbing) that in my mind, I was thinking “Haha, don’t tell me thats a Beta-Max! *one minute later listens to the second round of “Its a SOU-NI” line* …wow”. Perhaps the animation studio wanted to make the statement “History repeats itself” :D (and speaking of more bad Sony products, who here also hates the creation of the Memory Stick? *raises hand*)

    Edit @ otou-san:

omo mentioned A1 is owned by them

ah, it all makes sense now. Thanks :D

That art club is made of epic and win. And Takako needs a “I AM BOSS” T-shirt.

Personal favourite moment: Nagi cheerfully trawling through Jin’s pr0n stash and making casual observations about the content.

Lolikko Cutie could be the next Puni Puni Poemi. All hail.

I really liked this episode, and the Sony jokes.

For some reason everytime I see Tsugumi I think of Kasimasi – Girl Meets Girl…

Maybe it’s because little Jin grew into Tsugumi?

Tsugumi’s VA has a very distinct voice but she wasn’t cast in Kashimashi. I know that’s not what you meant but that won’t stop me writing it.
