Of course Alto is still alive since he bailed from his crappy plane in the nick of time. Alto reminds everyone that there is no way that Ranka could possibly be that large, and everyone realizes that it is just Battle Galaxy projecting a hologram of Ranka. Everyone stops trying to fly under the skirt of the giant Ranka and blasts Battle Galaxy. Macross Quarter defolds to join the fray, and Brera switches loyalties after getting caught in a blast that destroys the device enslaving him. Then Jeffrey and Cathy tell everyone about how Leon killed Howard, and loli-Klan Klein brings Alto his VF-25.
Grace is able to use her Monster Cables to deploy her loss-less galaxy-wide neural net and command Vajra to attack as far away as Macross 11 and even Macross City on Earth. However, Brera, Alto, and Sheryl team up to snap Ranka out of her funk and the combined song of Ranka and Sheryl overrides Grace’s orders. The Vajra help the humans out, and Brera tells Alto to aim for the Queen’s head (the Vajra heart is in the belly). Alto snipes Grace out with Mikhail’s gun, and the humans and Vajra make plans to open a bunch of new malls on the planet.
Reaction:
When I first watched this episode, I was a bit unsure about the execution, especially with the spamming of every single Macross Frontier song. Also, the Richard Bilrer-Lynn Minmay thing was stupid. However, I did like how they wrapped up the tale of the Vajra. It makes sense that the Vajra didn’t understand that all humans were different and so they figured Ranka was being held hostage. This even explains why Vajracteria try to eat your brain. Fortunately, the power of naked karaoke brought the Vajra back to their senses. Speaking of which, the revelation that Aimo is a mating song is just incredibly funny. I guess that Vajra just ended up humping the Research Fleet’s ships to death…
I liked how Klan Klein got to take Mikhail’s VF-25 and how Alto took Grace out with Mikhail’s sniper gun. If I learned anything from this series, it’s that sniping is way overpowered. Grace was scary-looking this episode, and we never found out who those male voices belonged to. As for Ranka and Sheryl, I wasn’t surprised that Alto didn’t choose either one since he finally got an atmosphere to fly around in. Ever since Jesus-Ranka moved Sheryl’s Vajracteria to the intestines, the two of them can communicate with the Vajra; I figure the upcoming OVA will deal with how Ranka and Sheryl decide to ditch Alto and just make out with each other in between naked karaoke sessions.
