Macross Frontier 22

Summary:
Leon learns Macross Frontier can stand only about 3 months of fighting, but figures it will be enough if they can replace Ranka. Luckily, now that Sheryl’s V-type infection has reached her brain, she is able to produce faint waves that can be amplified with Fold Quartz to affect the Vajra. Meanwhile, the NUNS has been given new MDE warheads and the VF-171EX line. Leon makes a call to Richard Bilrer and the SMS is to be assimilated into NUNS. Leon then orders his boys to teamkill Grace because he hate women.

Ozma and Cathy make it back to SMS and along with 70% of the crew decide they don’t want to be part of NUNS. The crew pirates the Macross Quarter, and Alto, Luca, and the Fourth Squadron unsuccessfully give chase (while Klan Klein watches from afar). Ozma tells Alto to seek his own path, and Alto screams in frustration when he realizes that his VF-171EX is just a refurbished NUNS plane with new paint. At the end we see Grace alive and ready to pursue Brera, after letting Leon know what she thinks of Macross Frontier. It’s Protoculture time!

Reaction:
Wow, Vajra parts are more useful than bear gallbladders and tiger schlongs. The idea that Fold Quartz is dried Vajra “bodily fluids” makes me giggle, and how is Luca so sure that Ranka’s power doesn’t come from a Vajra STD? Anyway, it was awesome watching Alto get schooled (by Ozma, and not even by Brera this time), and it’s interesting that the SMS gang has been split up. There are so many parties in play at this point that it’s getting tough to keep track of goals and loyalties.

No doubt Grace knew that Ranka was gonna bail and let Brera accompany Ranka. I guess Leon was just her tool, and she played with him like she played with her jugs at the end (lolwut…). Did Grace need Ranka to lead her to the homeworld of the Vajra where the true Vajra Queen lives? Just how much Vajra bodily fluid awaits Grace on Treasure Island? I’m excited that the animation has jumped back up again and with so many plot threads and only a few episodes left, I’m hoping that Macross Frontier ends with a bang.

Grace is just awesome. I am sure that Grace manipulated Brera and through him Ranka to get what she wanted. Grace will not be long to the Vajra homeworld to school them both.

My Alto-hime did pretty well against Ozma considering hime had the weaker fighter. Still I am glad Alto-hime decided to stick with Sheryl until the end instead of going after Ranka. Hopefully the love triangle will be over so that we can have more Grace.

The love triangle has been such a joke so far, though. I don’t think Alto really ever had any feelings for Ranka (except maybe as a friend). I liked Alto telling Sheryl he’d be with her till the end, and I wonder if Sheryl will be able to pull through eventually (courtesy of some real Queen Vajra bodily fluids perhaps).

Grace has to be playing everyone, especially since she could have put Brera in Force Mode if she wanted to. And to already have the extra VF waiting for her? Just as keikaku’ed.

Yeah that scene was pretty touching, I am sure Sheryl will be fine in the end though it be real sad if she died trying to save the Fleet. I think Ranka had a chance but lost it when she started getting into her own fame thing and goofing off with Brera.

Grace is going to have so much fun when she gets to her treasure island, can’t wait to see how Brera and Ranka react when they see her there.

Man I THOUGHT the captain looked like a pirate since I first saw him! Now it’s true! He’s one eye patch away from greatness.

In other news, it’s true, Grace totally played Brera as she did not activate force mode. The Vajra home planet is interesting, I wonder if we will actually find out more about the Vajra (are they like the bugs in Ender’s game? Or perhaps they are protoculture manufactured? Or perhaps they are their own species)

Finally, I agree… OMGWTFBBQ on the Grace breastplay. Belldandy’s got nothing on her!

It’s too bad we didn’t get to see Cathy’s text message. Do Luca and Alto just not care that Leon had President Glass killed? I’m intrigued at what will happen when Grace meets up with Ranka and Brera because I don’t think Ranka knows who Grace really is. I also wonder about all those dudes who were talking to Grace during the recap episode.

Ah, Vajra. I wonder how they came up with Essence of Space Insect as a secret ingredient in warheads…I’d love to spend a day in the Frontier Weapons Development Division, seriously.

I have to say I didn’t expect the SMS to split like that though. Fingers crossed for Ozma surviving, although the ‘pirates’ of the SMS (wtflolawesome) are on dangerous ground now. I could tell the captain is in his element here. Yarr!

Bobby was lulzworthy as always…it seems that the only creatures capable of surviving air raids are camp men with afros and peculiar coloured cats…

Sheryl was awesome to the power of awesome in this episode but as for Grace…I love to hate her. She’s shaped up to be a fantastic villain so far.

This episode seems to be building up to an epic follow-up but then I find myself saying that about every episode for this show - like you I’m praying for a spectacular ending.

I think Alto cares about the Leon situation, but (despite what Ozma is yammering on about) he’s got his own agenda. Maybe he hasn’t quite figured out what it is, but it isn’t mutiny. Seeing as how he just made a big teary-eyed promise to stick with Sheryl, he’d be more of a dick than usual for jetting off with his SMS buddies through a fold to who-knows-where.

I like how the captain lit up his pipe, reminded me of the old macross standby about how there’s no smoking on the bridge. Damn the rules now yarrr!

New lease on life for Sheryl is awesome, more Grace will be awesome, but I’m not sure if more victorious boob-fondling will be awesome or just weird.

Wasn’t that weird cat thing a baby Hydra? That last one had a V-type infection I think, so could Leon try for the same trick a second time, in hopes that another Ranka will pop up?

I can just imagine Grace telling her buddies (after a victory), “Grope ‘em if you’ve got ‘em!”

Yup, I too, can only foresee Leon invading the Vajran in their homeplanet and making a fortune from making products out of their carcasses like handbags and medicinal elixirs.

I also hope that Macross Galaxy collapses and everyone does. However if the authors don’t deliver we can still put the LHC to good use and make it a really big bang.
