Fall 2008

THAT has put up their preview of Fall 2008 anime series, and there sure are a lot of sequels. This time, however, most of the sequels are of series I haven’t watched, so that eliminates a lot of possibilities. I’ll be free to pick up at least 4 series, since everything I’m blogging should finish up by the end of summer. Hopefully I can get a good mix, and it’d be nice to pick up at least one 13 episode series.

Probably Will Blog

  • Michiko To Hatchin: Haha, this reminds me of TTGL for some reason. I just hope the little girl won’t end up being too bratty/annoying.
  • Shikabane Hime: Aka: Undead schoolgirl with gun premise sounds kinda lame, but if the action is hot and heavy, you can sign me up for some corpse hunting.
  • Toradora!: I didn’t read the summary or anything, but as soon as I saw the yamapikarya I got pumped up.

Possibly Will Blog

  • Hakushaku to Yousei: That hair! I fear this series will look great in promo-art but terrible in actual animation. Still, I have had decent success with journey-type anime series, and there is a very fluffy cat in a hat.
  • Kannagi: It could be kinda cliche, but I dig the character art for the three main girls and that is sometimes enough to carry me through a series. The last time I dealt with a Kannagi, though, was the wildly disappointing Kaze no Stigma.
  • Yozakura Shijuusou ~Yozakura Quartet~: Wasn’t this previously called Rental Magica? The lack of the creepy red eye is a major plus right off the bat.
  • Kurozuka: The question is, Will he live long enough to get one of Ranka’s frog phones? I also look forward to the main character trying to get into restaurants without a shirt on.

Might Watch, Won’t Blog

  • Tytania: I did like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, but it was a big time investment. Space opera generally isn’t my thing.
  • Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen: I liked Nodame Cantabile, but it started to drag towards the end. I’m not really sure I could make it through a second season.
  • Gundam 00 Second Season: The first season was fun at times, but those characters can be so frustrating. Also, it seems like nobody important ever dies.
  • Kemeko Deluxe: The artwork and premise kinda scare me, but sometimes these weird series can be hilarious. Unfortunately, sometimes they are just frantically boring.
  • Skip Beat: I’ve heard good things about the manga, and revenge love is the best kind of love. I don’t usually like really shoujo art, though.
  • To Aru Majutsu no Index: Wow this sounds super generic! The nun outfit kinda reminds me of Aria.
  • Kurogane no Linebarrel : WTT [Life] for [Gigantic Robot] + [Girl of Dreams] PST. Don’t worry if you get bullied, because a miracle will infuse you with strength and give you a super robot to beat up your enemies.
  • Ga-rei-zero: Ghost shounen and ugly orange Ghostbusters jumpsuits…
  • Casshern SINS: I don’t really like retro series for the most part.
  • Kyou no Go no Ni: I thought the OVA was entertaining, so I’ll probably watch this. This better not get all boring and crappy like the second season of Minami-ke or I will scream.
  • CHAOS;HEAD: OMG is that a semi-colon?! I’m not sure that you can use it in that way, but who am I to argue with a gory sci-fi series?

Probably Won’t Watch

  • Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae: I didn’t watch the first two seasons, and I’m still not interested in the genre.
  • Tales of the Abyss: The art looks good, and the Tales series is great (to play), but I couldn’t get excited about the previous Tales anime, so I don’t see myself watching this one.
  • Vampire Knight Guilty: The first season didn’t capture my interest at all, so I’ll pass on a second season of vampire harem.
  • Hyakko: Art looks pretty bad, so unless it is really funny I don’t think I will check this one out. The short number of episodes is a plus, though.
  • Rosario to Vampire CAPU2: What I saw of the first season was pretty awful. Don’t think you’ll be tricking me again Rosario!
  • Clannad ~After Story~: I still haven’t watched any of the Air, Clannad, etc. series.
  • Macademi Wasshoi!: The art style makes me throw up in my mouth a little.
  • Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka: Looks like a standard eroge adaptation. I am not a fan of the side-ponytail, so I’ll probably pass.
  • Ef ~A tale of melodies~: Didn’t watch the first season, so once again I probably won’t watch this one.
  • Kuroshitsuji: BL Hayate no Gotoku…
  • Bihada Ichizoku: No thanks, but good luck with the product placement.
  • Hokuto no Ken Raoh Gaiden: Ten no Haoh: I am not manly enough to watch this Fist of the North Star series.
  • Junjou Romantica 2: I’ll have to pass on the yaoi sequel.
  • One Outs: I just say no to baseball series.

Another person who wouldn’t touch Nodame Cantabile? D: I wish you’d cover more shows though, since I’m looking forward to many in Fall but won’t be able to actually try all of it.

glad to hear you’ve never seen those air/kanon/clannad shows. It’s uh, refreshing or something like that. Don’t start now. they suck you in for some retarded reason. Ef was actually good though, especially in B-R’s version.

I sure hope you’ll change your mind about Skip Beat later on and blog about it, would love to hear your thoughts on that

I have high hopes for Hakushaku to Yousei, and I am hoping that the beautiful art will be retained throughout the series’ run~

Wow, there’s one hell of a lot this season, isn’t there? :o

I’ll give the new ef series a look since it has Tenmon doing the music and Shinbo ’supervising’ as in the Tale of Memories (a quick listen on the official site suggests that the OST will be fantastic). I’ll watch the Clannad after-story out of completeness but as much as I’ve found the series to exceed my expectations I don’t see myself checking out any of the other Key adaptations.

As much as a girl with a gun and lots of zombies sounds fun I’m praying that Shikabane Hime won’t disappoint. It sounds like a cool premise but it might get old quickly unless Gainax inject some of their magic into it.

I checked out the manga for Kannagi and Toradora. I liked what I saw with Kannagi, and if the art is good for the anime I think I will definitely pick it up. It seems like a bit of a silly harem show, but I love the concept of powering up spirits with your faith. It’s very Bioware/Planescape Torment/Baldur’s Gate. The fanservice wasn’t too crazy blatant, and I thought the humor was cute.

The Toradora manga made me less excited for the anime. I felt like I was reading Zero no Tsukaima without any of the great action. Too much tsun, not enough dere for me.

I think I will definitely be picking up Michiko To Hatchin and Kannagi. I might only take one other series if I am still blogging Real Drive.
