The list is going up a bit early, as I’ll be out of town for the last week of August getting hitched. I might have some pre-written posts up during that week, but summaries for Macross and Zero no Tsukaima will be later than usual. I’ll probably be feeling lazy after I come back, too… Posts about funny faces in Soul Eater should still come out as expected, unless Kungfucius decides to take a week off. I also realized recently that I have been putting up these monthly lists for so many years that Google flagged them as duplicate titles. I had to go back and change all the titles to include the year (perma-links remain the same), to avoid Google getting mad. These bruises? I fell down the stairs…
Top Five This Month:
Code Geass R2: I was thinking recently of how Lelouch is the only main character that has shown any development at all through 2 seasons of CG. Then I got distracted by Kallen zipping around and owning everyone. Nina and Suzaku continue to surprise me by how easily they can make viewers hate them more.
Soul Eater: Finally, the story is in gear and the fighting is back. I liked the fighting in the manga, but I love it in the anime. There are no stupid delays and rewinds like in Naruto, and I especially like Medusa’s fighting style. Aside from the wavy hands (zomg, vectors?!), I really like the jangling of her bracelets. The fight choreography has really been top-notch.
Macross Frontier: Something bad is going to happen to Ranka, I just know it. You don’t get that much screen time without getting dumped on, like Sheryl. More importantly, how about all the Mikhail x Klan Klein moments? Too bad Alto still sucks.
Zero no Tsukaima 3: It’s been full of fanservice, but the plot actually has been moving along (although in surprisingly subtle fashion). So far I am enjoying this season much more than season 2. Bring on more Tabitha/Charlotte!
Real Drive: This show is fantastic. I’m not rating it higher since I’m still catching up, but I’ve enjoyed just about every episode so far. The pace isn’t super fast, but this show gives you that warm magical feeling you get when you watch really great anime series.
Rising:
Kamen no Maid Guy: The shrine god in episode 10 nets this series a mention. KnMG really does a great job merging parody with fanservice.
Xam’D: Lost Memories: Somehow it seems less cliche when a stony alien life form loses its memories. I kept thinking that Akiyuki was going to get sick and die from licking all those stamps, but I guess this is the power of the Hiroku.
Falling:
Birdy the Mighty Decode: Wow, I totally don’t care about Birdy’s planet. The pacing seems a bit off, but at least we have some crazy yandere Ryunka action to look forward to.
Nijuu Mensou no Musume: This series continues to drop in my standings. What’s the big deal about the fourth state of water? I already know what it is: plasma. We need more hot crazy scientists and fewer moments with Chiko’s aunt. I can already see Chiko’s aunt sneaking into Tome’s new mansion to try and poison the soup again…
