Hinano finished up her RenAi Blogger game today, and I downloaded a copy to give it a try. While it was rather short, I was pretty impressed by the overall feel of the game, and the storylines were very cute. Read on, but there may be spoilers.

So first of all, I’ve never actually played one of these games before. I figured it would be like Choose Your Own Adventures but with less death. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It was actually like Choose Your Own Adventures but with the same amount of death. And on my first run through I got killed by a yaoi paddle. Burning with shame and anger at all FYG, I had to go through the first part all over again (too cocky to save…), but this time I dragged Jen along to protect me (because CJ had to make up an excuse about volleyball to avoid me). Thankfully I was able to avoid death on my second try and got a cute little story.
Feeling confident, I tried again. I guess it is cool for college kids to lure young high schoolers out for dates, so I went on a pretty standard adventure to NYAF with Natsuko. Unfortunately, because I was nice enough to lug her stuff home for her, I got accused of taking advantage of an underage girl and her mom killed me or something.

So I learned that I pretty much suck at these romance games, and should stick to RPG and FPS instead. Still, the game was much more polished than I expected, and the great music and photo backgrounds helped establish the setting. It really felt like NY, except of course when it felt like Edgewater, NJ. Oddly, I did not run into Hinano at all in my adventures, although I did meet Impz. Make sure to watch your back around that one… At this point, I was scared of dying any more and I figured looking for Hinano’s path would probably involve JP stabbing me with kitchen knives. On a side note, the idea of two dudes living together in a 1BR apartment next to a trap fills me with dread.

Yay! There must be some blood in this game, right?
*LOL* Yeah, I ran into Impz too, which really threw me off because I thought he was a guy. I haven’t died yet, although I’m not as far as you, but I guess this means I’m doing something right….
Hint Hint: You need to literally try to be alone for your choices in order to find Hinano’s path.
It took me a while to find Hinano as well.
It is more likely that I would be the one to get stabbed to death with a kitchen knife.
Also, you’d be amazed how many dudes can cram into a 1BR in Manhattan.
Hinano’s path was hard to find… but the most entertaining =]
entertaining, I’ve never played one of these things either so I ended up meeting the same horrible fate the first try. Glad it wasn’t explicitly illustrated.
How do you get the yaoi paddle??? I’ve been trying all options but somehow cannot find that end :’(
I got Hinano on the…6th try.
Oddly enough, on the 3rd try, I got impz’s end. OTL
Activated Hinano’s event flag in my 2nd play through, though I was really going after Natsuko.
@Dorian
Go to the con alone, it seems.
WHHAAA!!! Jen’s in this game too?! *blush*… errrr, I mean, where my Totali ending? It must be there! I know it!
To tell you the truth, I haven’t played it yet… Well, I technically did, until I figured out that the scroll wheel (on the mouse) moved to the previous text, and I’m like, “OH COOL!” so I kept playing with that, but it lead me all the way back to the title screen… before I got to save
The title screen music is pretty catchy though! I wonder if Hinano did the music herself. If so, thats really impressive. It almost makes me want to make a game myself (and now that I know how to somewhat use the wiimote with the PC, it may be pretty fun!)
Oh, and while I was playing (before the scroll-end
), I was thinking to myself how cool it would be to have it as a DS game, since you mostly just click on the screen. Well, I guess it would only benefit those who play homebrew games and have those DS cards that can emulate stuff (remember kids! Don’t illegally download Nintendo games! It’ll make me a sad Panda
)… btw, you can only play as a male right?… Thats sort of sad
There better be a female’s version in the works!
Yeah, you can only play as a male.
“Make sure to watch your back around that one…”
…damn you Impz!!!
It won’t be long before Hinano makes an otome game blogger next time, I think lol.
Is it just me or does it seem as if I’m the easiest one to get among the girls? Noooo!!
Now you know what Hinano thinks of you (I am totally just kidding).
