Ozma’s been thinking about the past, like when Ranka was a neko-mimi loli eating his crappy pineapple cake. Then Cathy got tired of Ozma always running off instead of spooning, so she got engaged to Leon. Speaking of Leon, we get a meeting between Dude-Grace and Luca where we find out that Fold Quartz is harvested from Vajra gallbladders or something. Leon and Grace are at odds with Mr. Bilrer, but someone is planning to have a monopoly on intergalactic shipping.
Cathy and Ozma suspect Leon and “someone with implants” but get called away to battle. Unfortunately, it turns out Vajra evolve constantly and quickly become invulnerable to almost any weapon used against them. This is why Ranka’s singing is needed. Ozma thinks this is BS and just knifes all the Vajra, but later as he’s watching Ranka’s concert he starts bleeding all over the place. In spite of all the pineapple references, Ozma lives after being transported to the hospital, and later Sheryl gives Grace the cold shoulder.
Reaction:
I was not at all worried about Ozma in this episode, as the art was much too poor for this to be his sendoff. I was also confused about the male singer during the Vajra battle; what the heck was that about? Other than that, there was a lot to like in this episode (despite the heavy-handed pineapple pandering). Nanase got a job as a costume designer on Ranka’s team, Ai-kun (short for Aimo…) took out Alto’s paper plane in a hilarious scene, and we got to see Klan Klein fixing her eyebrows in hopes of scoring a date with Mikhail.
If the Vajra can adapt so easily, shouldn’t humanity be worried that Ai-kun is gradually getting sick/immune of Ranka’s music? There was a snippet where they showed little Ai-kun-esque Vajra hatching somewhere, but perhaps because the singing doesn’t directly hurt the Vajra they don’t develop immunity. It’s interesting that Ozma has figured out who Brera is, and I loved the scene where they guy cleaning Ozma’s plane got this look on his face like, “Damn, who forgot to bring extra tampons?!”
