Summary:
Minamo and Masamichi head to EISF headquarters, and Masamichi wants to be a Metal-diver. Unfortunately, he refuses to wear the Under-Decoy for safety and then fails the simulation over and over again. While Masamichi angsts, Minamo spends a little time with her friends and spots a book about calm, relaxing diving. This inspires her and she runs back to tell Masamichi to hit the bong before diving again.
Now that Masamichi’s all chilled out, he’s ready to help and make an emergency dive. Some scrub went brain-down while Metal-diving in Bob Zhouen. Before the scrub’s consciousness gets absorbed into the Metal, Masamichi has to brave sporadic Es currents and drag the scrub out. Afterwards, Eiichiro hires Masamichi as a special investigator and shows Masamichi to the special office-home that has been waiting for him this whole time. Masamichi also wants to hire Minamo full-time, and Souta has to back down because he doesn’t want Holon to beat his ass again.
Reaction:
Although I felt there was some footage-recycling going on while Masamichi was in the simulation, I enjoyed this episode. We got a lot of revelations, like how Minamo doesn’t have a cyberbrain and has to wear a super-dorky spacesuit mask to access the Metal. The most important revelation, however, came when the Secretary General was calling Eiichiro for a report and at the same time she was naked with Souta in her mind! Meetings in the future, banzai!
I think we are getting some hints of reality and the Metal blurring, such as when Minamo opened Masamichi’s pod and he was momentarily young. Was this real? It’s not like Minamo knew what Masamichi looked like when he was a young stud (well technically she did, but she probably doesn’t remember). At least Masamichi has something to do, because retirement sucks when you don’t have hobbies. I wonder if in the future all the best Metal-divers are potheads and monks.

I didn’t realize that this scene happened only in her mind. Actually I don’t even understand whether they really met virtually or whether it’s just a simulation. Was it really Souta or the young Haru? They do look alike don’t they?
I think the boffing happened in her mind, because the real Souta was with Eiichiro the whole time. It wouldn’t make sense to use a video-phone thing to call up Eiichiro if she was communicating with Eiichiro in the Metal. Based on episode 4, I believe that it was Souta because Masamichi only cares about diving (reminds me of Alto). It would be kinda odd for the Secretary General to have a simulation of Souta, since she can just order the real Souta to come over for a (virtual) booty call.
