Richard uses a building as his coaster, and then talks about Fold Quartz and his dream of overcoming fold faults to bring the universe together. While the government experiments on Vajra corpses, Ranka is kept under tight security. Grace has a grand plan to make Ranka into a huge celebrity with Aimo as a second single, so Grace monitors Ranka’s emotion index and the faint fold wave signature she gives off while singing. To help out Alto and Ozma, Ranka agrees to Leon’s plan to test her singing on Vajra in the middle of a battle.
Alto runs into a feverish Sheryl on the street and ends up carrying her back to SMS HQ right before the start of the mission. Sheryl demands to watch the mission and witnesses Ranka’s ability to completely disorient the Vajra. One indie-loving, mainstream-hating Vajra is able to break away and attack Ranka’s ship, but Brera shoots right through Alto’s wing in order to take the Vajra out. The mission is a complete success, although Grace notes that Ranka needs more training to avoid getting interrupted while spellcasting.
Reaction:
I loved all the little details in this episode, especially the super-ironic scene with Ai-kun the baby Vajra sitting in the VF backpack (which used the same angles as a certain School Days scene). Then there was Elmo drinking himself into a stupor at the unfairness of the situation and Mikhail telling Alto to remember to clamp a do-not-disturb handkerchief in the door. I was surprised to hear Luca make a PMS joke, and I was creeped out when Brera said Aimo made him feel like the Milky Way’s tendrils were molesting his body. Klan Klein saying, “Yakk… deculture,” was also a highlight of the episode.
Now that we’ve officially named the Fold Quartz, can we please stop getting all the heavy-handed sparkling any time a character gets near the crystals? There was more dumping on Sheryl this episode, but at least she got a Sheryl-centric ED. I still think that Sheryl will be important to the final battle, even if it is just as Ranka’s backup singer. I don’t begrudge Ranka’s success, especially considering her motives and the difficulty of her task. By the way, did anyone catch Mikhail stealing a kill on the Vajra that was just about to be blown up by a swarm of missiles? That guy is almost as bastardly as Brera!
