Birdy and her bug boss Officer Megius inform Tsutomu that his corpse is in for repairs and body work on Econos-Quill and Birdy is his loaner. Until his own body is fixed Tsutomu’s consciousness is stuck inside Birdy and forced to ride endless 4-D rides. Meanwhile, Geega’s men are transporting the Ryunka when the driver falls asleep and crashes into Nakasugi Sayaka’s car. It looks like a mysterious agent then steals the busted Ryunka box and does something to Sayaka so that Sayaka won’t die.
Since Geega is on the IR, Bacillus offers to get the Ryunka back. He figures Birdy took the Ryunka and so ambushes her on a TV show’s set. His stretchy arms and sensitive nose give Birdy a tough time at first, but his host’s body eventually starts falling apart. Birdy is forced by Tsutomu to save the injured reporter, Muroto Keisuke, and so Bacillus gets away. Since Bacillus is an alien parasite who absorbs the knowledge and bodies of others, he figures it’s time to eat Geega.
Reaction:
I knew there was something suspicious about Sayaka, even though she was just a stock sickly character when I first suspected something sinister about her. I wonder what that agent did to her, since it didn’t look like they fused bodies. Speaking of fusing, it was interesting to hear that Birdy could not communicate with Tsutomu telepathically without risking a mind-fuse. If Tsutomu puts his mind to it, he could master ventriloquism by the end of the season.
Bacillus was a nice early villain, and his rotting zombie sliminess helped differentiate him from other tentacle monsters. I question his judgment in eating Geega, since now Bacillus has one less ally and his body is missing an arm. Then again, perhaps this is not much of a problem for tentacle monsters… On a different note, does being able to change into Tsutomu mean that Birdy no longer has to rent her own apartment?
