The uber tests of all tests at Shibusen is approaching, and most of the student are hard at work studying, but none harder than Maka, who felt the need to prove she’s destined to make a Deathscythe and knock away the memories of second place to Ox, a most interesting nerd if I ever seen one. Even Maka’s dad is taking this test seriously as he casts all the good karma he has on Maka to do well on the exam. This leaves Blair with no one to play with, so she goes on scouring the student landscape but sees most of everyone hard at work, even if the work isn’t going towards the exam as in Death the Kid’s case. Finding himself trapped with his goldfish memory, Black Star makes an attempt to steal the test out of Stein’s lab, but Stein proves to be too tough an adversary to fool as he catches BS in the act.
Fortunately for Maka, all her studying pays off as she ends up with the top score in her class, avenging her loss last year to Ox by one point. Maka’s dad tries to do the right thing by giving Maka a gift for her accomplishments, but he gives the job to the wrong cat as Blair ends up spending the money that Maka’s dad designates for Maka’s presents on lingerie. Blair shrinks the lingerie to Maka’s size and thinks that Maka wouldn’t think much of it, but it turns the relationship between Maka and her dad for the worse…
Though this episode lacks in action, it makes up for with plenty of laughs
Watching everyone struggle through the test in their own way was a complete hoot, from Death the Kid struggling to write his name to Patty making and destroying her test giraffe
And you would figure that after making all of those cheat sheets that Soul Eater would have internalized some of the facts, but I guess he suffers from goldfish memory like Black Star. There was plenty of Blair in cat mode, which was pretty cute to watch throughout the episode.

Ahahaha Blair.
Kitty-mode Blair is awesome, especially when she was sleeping on Maka’s lap.
I also liked how Liz really wanted to pluck that one hair off Ox’s head. That would have bothered me too if I had to stare at it the whole time.
…which reminds me of shaving.
Too true, the humour does make up for the lack of action
Does anyone think it’s ironic that the witch is named Blair? Was that movie screened for Far Eastern countries?
I never realized the connection before, but I am sure it was on purpose. A lot of the character names are puns (like Ox Ford), which almost makes it weird when a character doesn’t have a punny name (that or I can’t figure out the pun).
I loved Patty scribbling with crayons, then ending up with a magnificent giraffe, for the sole purpose of breaking its neck. She’s like some kind of idiot savant.
She still somehow got some points on the test too!
