Apparently the Gandalfr buff doesn’t persist after death, and when Saito respawns he finds that his runes have disappeared. The war’s over, and now there’s plenty of time to angst about what this means for Saito and Louise’s relationship. Without the runes, the contract might be Void and it will be a while before the lawyers get through all the contractual details. Louise is afraid that Saito will leave now, and Saito is worried that he can no longer protect Louise.
While on her way to see Henrietta, Louise is ambushed by Sheffield who reveals that she is a Familiar of the Void, Mioznitnirn (the Brain of God). That sounds cool until Sheffield also reveals that she works for some otaku (Joseph) who sits around and fondles his figurines all day. With Derflinger’s walkthrough and an Agnes Stabby Special, our heroes make it to Henrietta and decide to look for Tiffania in Vistom to see if she can restore Saito’s runes.
Reaction:
I can’t believe the plot returned, even though it’s only the first episode! True the plot is like that of a cheesy Kung Fu movie where the master must be chaste or risk losing all fighting prowess, but it still beats the garbage of last season so far. I also appreciated the balance of tsun tsun to dere dere, as Louise was almost tolerable this episode (she even cast a real spell this time). It’s too bad that Saito didn’t accept the Chevalier certificate, but can’t Henrietta just declare him a nobleman in spite of his protests?
Production values were decent and similar to previous seasons. The OP and ED kinda sucked, but I appreciated Louise’s version of the Head Stomp. I wonder if Kirche and Tabitha will get any screen time this season, but I fully expect that Tiffania will pull an Agnes this season and steal the spotlight. We’re off to a good start, however, and I actually enjoyed this first episode.
