Summary:
Federation Inspector Birdy Chiffon Altira (an an Altarian Ixioran Altic) is chasing after two criminals, Geega and Bacillus. Unfortunately, the duo are able to escape to Earth and hide among the rest of the civilization level 6 hicks. In order to find Geegar and the stolen Ryunka, Birdy disguises herself as a rising idol named Arita Shion and her octopus sidekick Tute pretends to be Shion’s fruity manager Sawatoru-san. Geega has less imagination and masquerades as an executive for Empire TV named “Giga,” yet it takes 6 months and some leads from old Irma to find him.
As Birdy fights with Geega at an abandoned hotel (where experiments are being done on Ryunka), Senkawa Tsutomu and his friend Hiyamiya Natsumi are exploring the building. Geega throws Tsutomu at Birdy as a distraction, and in typical reckless fashion Birdy blasts a hole through the kid. The next day Tsutomu wakes up to find he no longer needs glasses because he has fused his mind and body with Birdy. One person gets to be active at a time, while the other one has to kinda hang out in the subconscious.
Reaction:
There was a ton of information in this episode, but it’s hard to tell how much of it was important. The constant reminder that there are other aliens living on Earth made the show feel like Being John Malkovich meets Men in Black. The shape-shifting was interesting, but what does that mean for Shion? Can Birdy be Birdy, Shion, and Tsutomu? I’m curious about how this twist will be handled.
Action-wise, the choreography was good, and the fight was fully animated (no typical animation cop-outs). I appreciated Birdy going for some body shots, and her sparkle sparkle heels were certainly unique. I can’t believe how much of a n00b that reporter guy was, though, checking his shots in the middle of the fight instead of getting all the footage now and reviewing it later. Was his memory card so small that he could only keep the best shots?

Hey man…he was just caught up in the moment.
Despite the silly title, the show turned out much better than I had first anticipated. I thought it was going to be your usual girl meets boy affair, but now that the girl is inside the boy himself, I can only imagine the hilarity being derived from it.
Or is the boy inside the girl? Hmmmmm, damn these mind games!
Best Birdy move had to be when she stole Suzaku’s patented run up the wall and then do a spin kick maneuver.

the story’s old and i didn’t like the animation. 
well… is this a remake? or a spinoff? cause there was an oav back in the old days with the title birdy the mighty if i recall correctly and i heard it was good (never got to watch it for myself though)
I going all o.O?? with the Shion stuff they added. The 2-in-1 Birdy x Tsutomu was already good enough as it is, now they made it more complicated. The additional entertainment factor this will bring is a welcome, I just hope they handle this well >_<
I believe this is a remake of the series, though with some updates and small changes. I guess technically Shion is just Birdy in disguise.
A lot of good things I’m hearing about this show, despite the title, perhaps I should go catch up on it when I have the time.

And why does everyone remark about the stupid title? I’ve come across a lot of dumb titles and they rarely indicate anything about the quality of the show.
The original Birdy was certainly not something to write home about (like I’d write home about anime wakawakawaka) but it was a fun way to kill a lazy afternoon. This show seems like it has the same fun, so I will continue to watch.
Really, the title could be worse, like “Bardy za Marty decaf”.
I personally love the title. It’s a testament to how interesting broken english and asian accents can be.
Well, I haven’t seen the original, but I do like this spinoff so far. And the ED is awesome. :P
Haven’t seen the original but the manga was done by the Patlabor creator, so it had cred to begin with.
I thought the action was pretty cool, hopefully it’s not one of those titles that teases us with decent animation first episode and then slowly drops it off.
