The D-pulse that brought Alto’s VF-25 down also jammed up the communications on the Zentradi mothership. The Macross unit turns out to be the 117th Research Fleet’s flagship Global. There’s a queen Vajra inside, and Ranka is kidnapped and brought into the egg room. Inside the ship’s ruins is a cracked picture of young Ranka, and between this and Grace’s instructions to Brera, it seems that Ranka is some kind of human-Vajra experiment. Naturally, all the data in Global was recently erased.
Speaking of Grace, she has jumped over a mountain and loaded up a huge bomb known as the Dimension Eater. Her plan is to detonate the bomb to kill the Zentradi 33rd Fleet and Sheryl in order to cause an uproar of hatred and suspicion. However, Mikhail is on to Grace’s treachery, and when the bomb goes off Mikhail and Sheryl are able to hitch a ride with the Vajra ships that warp away with Ranka. Alto is left behind, but he will probably grab the L.A.I. pack and jump on out of there next episode.

It only took 13 episodes, but finally we’ve moved past the character development and fan-wanking episodes. A lot of stuff happened this episode, and as I suspected the whole thing was Grace’s plan. We saw Grace go down with the bomb, but I bet that was just a robo-Grace and the real manager is somewhere else making evil plans and skimming money from Sheryl’s concert sales. We also had hints of Ranka being some kind of crazy prego-Vajra-queen-human experiment, so I hope Alto is ok with having a step-son that has tentacles.
I wonder what is in store for Mikhail. The Mikhail x Klan Klein angle was pushed again, but there are hints of Mikhail x Sheryl (although I think they are more flirty friends than anything else). It amazes me that Mikhail was able to snipe the gun out of Brera’s hands, and yet he did not notice the fleet of Vajra ships behind him. Talk about tunnel vision… As for Brera, it is so hard to tell where his allegiance lies, and the only consistent thing about him is that he wants to bone his maybe-experimental-sorta-sister.
