There’s only going to be one MEC inspection before the opening of the exhibit at 9:00 AM, but according to Satoshi and also the MEC officer from before the fight will be fierce. All the MEC scrubs are fighting for honor now, and the LDF forces have a tough time during the 3 hour battle. Hikaru snipes two guys out of a tree and calls it a day, and Iku takes out a whole squad with one magazine.
Just when it seems like things have finished up, one MEC guy sneaks up on the Freedom art piece. Not wanting to test out the bulletproof glass, Ryusuke shields the art with his body and gets 5 bullet wounds for his trouble. Even worse, Atsushi catches Chief Librarian Sugawara lighting the library’s taboo books on fire. Although Iku arrives on the scene in time to detain Chief Librarian Sugawara, Atsushi has already been shot in the shoulder, and cannot stop a stack of burning books from falling on him.
Reaction:
Holy crap, the MCF guys have finally figured out how to shoot at arms and legs! Suddenly there is an element of danger, although I suspect Ryusuke and Atsushi are ok. I can’t see Atsushi being dead, since Iku was finally making some romantic progress. I find it unusual that Atsushi did not carry his sidearm with him after such an intense battle; if only he had, he could have easily taken out that crazy lady from beyond her range.
While the connection between the MCF and Non-Resistance forces was interesting, it’s too late in the series to really explore it much. Asako barely got any screen time, and her report wasn’t even used. The commander from last time made it seem like MCF guys are just a bunch of wage-slaves, and I appreciated the guilt trip that he laid on Mikihisa in the drug store.
