Iku is bugging out since realizing that Atsushi was her Prince Charming all along. This causes her to be very clumsy and shy around him, and the vicious cycle intensifies because Iku is sure that Atsushi must hate her now. Naturally, this odd behavior makes Atsushi think that Iku hates him, and so we have a standard misunderstanding that really ramps up the sexual tension.
However, all that is shoved into the background because it’s time for the promotion test. It’s 50% written, 50% practical, and only 50% usually pass. While Asako has things covered, Hikaru is worried about the practical portion (reading to kids) and Iku is really worried about the written portion. Asako gives Hikaru some pointers and Atsushi compiles a study guide for Iku, and so all three are able to pass. Afterwards, Iku finally tells Atsushi she will let go of her fantasies about Prince Charming and strive to be Atsushi 2.0 instead. There’s some more discussion about the Chamomile being the symbol of the LDF, and Atsushi slyly invites Iku on a date to check out a tea shop that sells Chamomile tea.
Reaction:
It is so sad watching Atsushi try to grab objects away from Iku. He looks like a little kid being teased… However, this episode really shed light on Atsushi’s reactions to the various Prince Charming stories. It’s one thing to be constantly praised and yet reminded of your foolish younger self. However, they seriously need to have an episode where Iku and Asako discuss absurd tall tales (you see what I did there?) about Prince Charming while Atsushi has to listen to their blatant lies and keep silent.
While they keep teasing us with Hikaru x Asako moments, I think Hikaru is still too in love with Satoshi to do anything. He was still thinking about that watch in this episode! Too bad, because they seem like they would be a cute couple, and then we could get scenes of Asako dragging Hikaru on a rollercoaster ride. In terms of relationships that actually have a chance of happening, Atsushi x Iku was fantastic this episode, especially because of the uncomfortable commander-subordinate implications. I thought Iku was great during the practical portion of the promotion test, and her use of edutainment to trick those little brats was masterful.
