Maka and Soul Eater are assigned to an extracurricular class in Italy where their task was to hunt down the soul of Sonson J, a Jason wannabe who couldn’t afford a mask so he dawns a fierce brown paper bag over his head. After disposing of Sonson J rather easily, Maka senses another Kishin soul nearby surrounded by the Madarati gang, whom Soul Eater had beat up earlier after they threatened him. In an instant, the human souls in the Madarati gang were gone, causing Maka to drag Soul Eater along to investigate. The two end up inside a church building where they encounter Chrona and his (her?) strange weapon Ragnarok, who seeming can come and go like the T-1000 since Ragnarok was fused into Chrona’s blood. Since it was illegal to kill humans for their souls, Maka and Soul Eater were forced to act. Although Ragnarok was doing most of the work dragging Chrona around in sword mode, the two proved to be tough customers as Maka couldn’t slash through Chrona, and any impact between Ragnarok and Soul Eater in weapon mode did damage to Soul Eater. Maka tried to make an escape towards the door but found herself locked in with Chrona quickly approaching for the kill, but Soul Eater transforms out of weapon mode to take the incoming damage against Maka.

With Soul Eater out for the count, Maka trembled as she figured this was the end, but from out of the blue, Dr. Stein and Maka’s dad come to the rescue! Stein shows off his impressive fighting ability in wielding Maka’s dad in scythe mode with one hand to block while counterattacking with his opposite hand using soul forces, and the duo dispatches of Chrona rather easily despite Ragnarok’s annoying bloody needle attacks. But just before Stein could swoop in for the final blow, the ominous witch who had been hanging in the background for most of these two episodes comes out of hiding to take Chrona away. Instead of going after her, Stein tends to Soul Eater and manages to surgically repair most of his wounds, although he hinted to Maka’s dad that Soul Eater’s blood had been tainted from Ragnarok’s attacks. It’s revealed that Ragnarok was trying to mold Chrona into a Demon God with the help of the ominous witch, who is later revealed to be a nurse named Medusa inside Shibusen.

Things are looking even more interesting how that we have a witch inside Shibusen, and we don’t know yet how Soul Eater will react now given that his blood is tainted. Stein gets some major kudos points from me by demonstrating his elite fighting skills and by also showing does indeed care for his students by immediately caring of Soul Eater after the battle against Medusa. Even Maka’s dad earned a bit of kudos points for his performance on the battlefield, although he lost some after fawning over Medusa when she went to “check up” on Soul Eater and Maka at the hospital. Of course, Black Star continues to lose points with his “big” entrance to visit Soul Eater. Fortunately, Maka chopu proved too much even for Black Star to handle. Also, I have to say that although the idea of becoming a Demon God may be appealing, Ragnorok’s annoyance level rivals even that of Black Star, so Medusa might need to do something to tone him down a bit if she wants to continue her experiments.
