Iku’s parents have come to visit, and Iku’s friends reluctantly agree to help her keep up the charade. Unfortunately, Iku’s dad is very perceptive, and the article that Maki wrote about Iku is quite popular. While sharing a bath, Iku’s mother also notices a bruise on Iku’s arm, and gets worried. It’s not too difficult to fool Iku’s mom (distracting her with magazines about hot guys, saying Iku’s uniform belongs to Asako’s boyfriend), but Iku’s father is harder to distract.
Kasahara-otousan quickly notices that every other librarian is much more skilled than Iku and wonders how she could have qualified for the job. These suspicions are amplified when Iku gives chase after a book thief, and judo-tosses the thief to the ground. Kasahara-okasan wants Iku to quit, but Iku’s dad takes her side. When Iku explains she has to be a librarian to meet her Prince Charming, however, Iku’s mother totally understands and relents.
Reaction:
Kasahara-otousan is quite sharp! I think the last scene where Atsushi sees that the article about Iku has been dog-eared is meant to show that Kasahara-otousan read the article while staying with Atsushi. Fortunately, Kasahara-otousan has accepted Iku’s wishes, and hopefully Kasahara-okasan will realize that the only place Iku can find a man is on the battlefield. It was funny to see how Iku’s dad is so much shorter than her mom. It’s like getting a preview of Iku x Atsushi! Perhaps Iku’s dad was able to accept the situation better because of how short and trustworthy Atsushi is.
It’s nice that Iku’s friends are all willing to cover for her, although Asako had to be bribed with food. But why would Iku’s mom think that Asako was so mature and refined after hearing that Asako has a secret BF who stays over in the shared dorm room? On a different note, I always wonder about Iku’s choice of tactics in CQC. Why in the world would she dodge the punch and then throw the thief with a sacrifice throw (on asphalt, no less)? Having already redirected his momentum, she could have simply driven her forearm above his elbow and forced him to the ground. Even a hip toss would have been a better choice!
