The Best Team Blog Isn’t a Blog

Since Kabitzin has been diligently pimping the ABA these past few weeks, I figured I’d better chip in with my own tearful and drama-ridden explanation of my voting choices. But that would have taken too long, so instead I’ll just grouse about who I believe should have been a nominee for the best team blog category.

An ace team blog should inspire feelings of heartfelt admiration for the close bond between the team members and the intangible *oomph* that arises from being more than just a sum of parts. The blog cannot feel simply like a talented and diverse group of professional writers who collaborate on blog-related activities; they’ve got to be friends both on and off the court. Who do I think is the best candidate? Hontou Ni.

Yes, it’s actually a tag team, but it might as well be a conjoined twin. Hontou Ni Taihen Desu and Hontou Ni Sou Omou together exhibit the kind of community-engendering teamwork that embodies my vision of ‘best team blog’. They’ve got each others backs, they josh each other endlessly in both locations, they critique and cross-reference each others’ habits and peculiarities, achieving a sort of chaotic synergy that only fetish blood-brothers can attain. Their alter-egos even live in the same comic universe, apparently. They aren’t isolationists either, being active participants in the aniblogsphere.

They even stock up on merchandise for each other. I sure as hell wouldn’t waltz into a store to buy a dakimakura for Kabitzin, but I’m sure Stripey would happily snag one for Zyl. Separated by barriers of space and time, these stalwart comrades have got each other covered, in uncomfortably twisted mimicry of Hoshi no Koe. I would almost go so far as suggest that they (*gasp*) combine their blogs into one, but then they’d have only one banner image for their numerous idols to share, and we all know there’s only room for one fetish in this town.

Naturally, this interpretation of the award category is entirely personal, and not necessarily in line with the official spiel listed on the ABA site (which has a very technical slant for best clarity). Although I would have liked the Hontou Ni duo to be in the runnings, it’s pretty obvious that being two separate blogs makes them ineligible. Which is probably for the best, since allowing dual entities to be nominated as one would have muddled up the rules quite a bit.

As an aside, I do believe that 0rion and Guff had some good synchro going, but their well-prepared dialogues made me feel there was actually only one person playing both parts, like an Eddie Izzard skit. Which is not a bad thing at all, but it’s just not my thing.

Ah, so they are brothers *blush*! I thought that was just a joke since they somewhat use the same url address.

I sure as hell wouldn’t waltz into a store to buy a dakimakura for Kabitzin

Wow, you’re mean :( I bet Kabi-kun would buy you one at times of need!

On the subject of dakimakuras, they are literally twice my size

wait so does that make me and JP a team too? I thought a team blog had to be people posting on the same blog rather than those sharing a domain name *so confusd now* :blank:

Ender, thanks and so appropriate coming from you too because you’re the one who singlehandedly stuck the siscon label on Stripey which is a fundamental of our tag-team interaction!

Jesus159, Stripey and I are brothers but we are not blood-related. ;)

Hinano, no confusion there - a Mistress-Slave duo must surely be a team too! :P

I think the Minaidee should also be considered a team blog them. Because Hinano writes posts, and Hinano forces JP to write posts. That’s teamwork, right?

Just wanted to say that Macross pic rules.

@Hinano & Hung: Yes, by my standards, HinJP would be considered a teamish blog, but I think the ABA-powers-that-be are only counting single blogs with multi-authors, in order to keep it simple.

@ Jesus159 - sorry for the confusion, when I say blood brothers I mean it like this.

@Epi - thanks, I thought so myself! Now if only I could get Kabitzin to appreciate the classic Macross series…

    WTF. Banned!

I always liked the Hontou ni-chans as the Aizen Twins, and I like the term Hinaneyer better.

Gattai is always greater than a sum of the parts!

Wow can you imagine two middle aged otakus each armed with 150 cm long pillows of anime girls (erm, Da Capo I suppose) swatting each other in a pillow fight and giggling “Aw, stop lovin my sister!” and “You silly Zaku fanboy!” and then hugging and blogging together. Awesome.

tjhan, you forgot to add: ‘while cosplaying as Nanoha and FEITO.’ Stripey always insists on being Fate but I don’t really mind since her pre-StrikerS getup is a bit airy.

I have a team blog too. It’s a tag team between my human form and my raptor form.

Wow, thanks Ender, although sometimes I think my good bro is harbouring evil intent during those spontaneous acquisitions; for example the meido uniform or Yoakena (h-game which is banned in my household/country).

Anyhow “Blogging tag-team” is much better than “Aizen twins“.

    Hontouni supports the rebellion!
