I’m going to leave off the shows that ended recently since you already know which ones I liked (rankings tend to be consistent throughout the season). So far this season has mostly been silly, but Macross is keeping me grounded… sorta. I’ve had a hard time deciding which shows to pick up, but I’m leaning towards some foxy gender-bending. I am still eagerly awaiting literary conflict as well.
Top Five This Month:
Code Geass R2: If you liked the first season, the sequel has been giving you almost everything you wanted. C.C. torturing Kallen and Rollo doing his Dio Brando-lite impression are interesting additions, and I giggle whenever they bring up the Viletta x Ogi relationship. Also, shouldn’t Lelouch’s Geass not work on people who wear contacts (at its current power level)? Near-sightedness banzai!
Macross Frontier: Although the story is exciting and epic, Macross takes extra care to sprinkle in little bits of fanservice whenever possible. So far the music and animation have been incredible, and I am enjoying the series in spite of being a Macross newbie.
Soul Eater: This is a shounen series with style. The studio has really done a great job with this series, and I hope they can keep up the fight animation and the pacing. I think Death the Kid is a fun character, but the way he holds his weapons really bothers me. It really is amazing what you can get away with when your dad is Shinigami-sama.
Wagaya no Oinari-sama: The two images that sealed it for me were Ko going all stealthy on the baggage shelf and Kugen in fox form watching TV. I figure the budget will slide with time, but I like what I’ve seen so far. Kugen’s minty-fresh breath amuses me.
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki: This is how I imagine the world would turn out if Haruhi were really in charge. Kyouka stealing credit for Yuka was awesome, since Kyouka didn’t even care about winning the game.
Rising:
Kamen no Maid Guy: I am aware that this show is remarkably stupid, but the setups for the fanservice have been interesting so far. Kogarashi’s printing ability reminds me of how Sheryl warned Alto not to upload spicy visual data.
Golgo 13: Even though everyone is all retro-fugly, this show is so hilarious. Golgo himself is out-of-control powerful, and his exploits completely blow my mind. Even after getting it on for hours, Golgo doesn’t spoon or smoke; no, Golgo winds down by grabbing a sidearm and headshotting a gang of contract killers. Golgo’s real name is aimbot.
xxxHolic manga: I can’t stand the overly long limbs in the anime, so I decided to check the manga out to see what all the fuss was about. While I can see the interesting foundation being put in place, so much of the early chapters are Kimihiro being annoying (along with the two brats) and Yuko giving long speeches. Still I like Yuko, and I enjoy watching all the random unimportant people who keep getting owned by life.
Falling:
Nabari no Ou: I wouldn’t say the show has been bad, but something about it has kinda left me feeling bored. I did enjoy watching the big cat bat away Yoite, though.
The Tower of Druaga: I didn’t think the joke episode was that funny, so naturally the real episodes didn’t amuse me either. Feels cliche and boring, as expected.
