Summary:
Apparently Alto has never heard of firing in bursts, and he quickly runs out of ammo. Before he can get juiced, however, Ozma distracts the can-opener beetle-alien and tells Alto to escape with Ranka. A few eel-aliens give chase, but Alto eludes them and Mikhail shows up in a mecha to snipe the pursuers. Alto tries to comfort Ranka, but of course ends up copping a feel and causing Ranka to scream. This is so corny that the red beetle immediately facepalms, and Ozma is able to swoop in the for the kill. The rest of the aliens protest the silly fanservice moment, and decide to retreat for now.
Somehow Luca is also part of the SMS, and Ozma mentions that the aliens were the Vajra. Alto and Ranka get taken in separately for examinations, while a few Vajra hide in the wreckage outside. Ranka asks her brother (who she thinks is in HR) to keep a lookout for Alto, while at the same time Sheryl tries to locate Alto as well. Unfortunately, Ozma is only interested in having Alto tell the story of how Gilliam died, and Alto doesn’t even get to hop in a Valkyrie when another Victor 3 order is issued (he does get a nice punch in the face, though).
Reaction:
When Alto used his second jump and then his Up-B move to save Ranka, I realized that practicing all this SSB: Brawl might come in handy one day. However, I was surprised when Ranka mentioned being 25% Zentradi Zentran; weren’t those the giants that owned up mankind in the not so distant future? I was also surprised that Luca was part of the SMS. It’s one thing for the number one student (Mikhail) to be a part, but why is Alto not in the SMS if Luca is? Anyway, perhaps Alto can blackmail Ozma into letting him pilot the VF-25, since Alto knows the secret of Ozma’s job as squadron leader.
My favorite part of this episode was when Ranka met Sheryl for the first time, without realizing who Sheryl was. As Sheryl soaked in the adulation, I felt like this is exactly how it would play out if I ever met someone in RL who read this blog without realizing who I was. If Sheryl can do it, maybe I can too… I must train harder! Too bad Sheryl is going to be disappointed when she finds out that Ranka can cast debuffs on the Vajra with her Bard songs.

as for Zentradi ownage, there was a big group that shrank themselves to fight alongside and crossbreed with humans after feeling the magic of Culture. Or so they said. Maybe it was deculture.
That’s Cultural hegemony at its finest, when you can use it to convince aliens to breed with you. Suddenly my existence as a humanities student / drone feels vindicated.
So the Zentradi took our planet and our hotties? That is so frustrating! At least they got written out of all the later SC sequels.
Or did we lose our planet and take their hotties? Looking at it that way, it’s almost even. Maybe…

Actually I think that Luca and Mikhail went to a job fair for mercenaries while Alto-hime was still doing theater. Besides throwing in a rookie with a beat up VF-25 is just a death sentence for Alto and anyone else tasked to save him. Better that Alto live longer to be trained rather than throw him into the press of combat where he probably get killed.
So what if some one started defaming the name of Kabitzin while you were sneaking about? Will you soak it in as some form of fame as well?
Oh noooes, Alto was at the trap job fair instead of the merc job fair! Those two are often confused, and I suspect that is what happened to Impz.

Well, let’s look at it this way – on the downside, the Zentradi wasted much of the population. On the upside, their women tend to be quite… interesting, at least the ones we’ve seen, and we obviously ended up showing them other things, so now we’ve got half and quarter-Zentradi running around.
Given they nuked most of Europe, the United States, and Asia in the process, we came out almost even.
I thought Impz was just born that way or was it magitek?

To be fair, it was the Macross that did most of the nuking. But hey — the world may have ended, but pop music goes on.

I actually watched this episode with no idea what was going on … but the action — *drools* I’m definitely going to keep watching this!
Loved the punch. If it was any other show he would hop onto one, kick some arse and join the team, but not here!
I think we know Alto’s lineage.
You see… the secret is this: Mako-chan’s full name is actually Makoto Saotome. After realizing he can no longer go back, he decides to throw himself into a career as a Kabuki performer, eventually founding his own troupe which develops into a dynasty of traps. They end up on South Ataria, and then survive the Superdimensional Fortress’ trip across space. This means that Mako-chan’s grandchild, Alto Saotome, a natural trap – it’s in his blood.
Suddenly, it all comes together! Especially if we assume that Yoshino or Touma is his grandmother, which explains the blue hair and the snarky attitude…
Touma as grandmother makes my brain explode.
Well, she’d have to be the one to give BIRTH to Alto’s father (or mother), since Mako-chan’s incapable of it, and the only guy we know of on record capable of giving birth was born female and thus had the organs for it.
But… Mako-chan being Alto’s grandfather explains so much about Alto-hime’s reaction to being teased for being so feminine, as he’s running away from the family tradition, yet has the face to be very effeminate. Trapness has a genetic base – it involves physical features which can be passed along family lines, and even explains the hime joke. After all, Touma was one of Chiaki-hime’s subjects for a while..
You know, in any case, Makoto Saotome can also well refer to Himeko’s friend in Kannazuki no Miko.
Still, interesting and funny theory. LMAO.
