Kabitzin’s March 2008 List

This month has been emotional and exciting, with several quality series going into the final stretch. The next few weeks could see some really incredible finishes, so I’m really pumped. The only show I’ve really disliked recently is Spice and Wolf, and I don’t know if I would watch another season. Dragonaut has been cheesy as well this month, but the bar has been set quite low for months.

Top Five This Month:

  1. True Tears: Even when things seem decided, the writers keep pulling us back in! Really this series has been great from episode 2, even if I didn’t root for all the relationships that developed.
  2. Shakugan no Shana Second: This season has followed a similar trajectory to season 1, and the final third of the season has been exciting and somewhat suspenseful. It looks like we’ll be going into a third season, and I like that Balle Masque has been running circles around Yuuji-gumi.
  3. Bamboo Blade: Tamaki is a sore loser. The squad really should have kept searching for another girl so that they could bring Miyako along slowly. At this rate she’s going to end up hating kendo because she keeps losing over and over.
  4. Gundam 00: Did Alejandro stop off at a pawn shop on the moon? The deaths of several scrubby characters, the appearance of Trans-Am, and the introduction of the always-cheesy gold Gundam still can’t erase the exhilaration and emotion in the last few episodes.
  5. Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de: The production values are only middling, and there are a lot of cliches, but the execution has been strong. I find myself laughing and enjoying every episode.

Rising:

  • Soul Eater Manga: It may just be a slightly naughtier fusion of One Piece and Shaman King, but the major arc has been pretty tight. If production values for the anime are reasonable, I’ll definitely be watching.

Falling:

  • Spice and Wolf: If this was a full season, I would have dropped it. The relationship between Lawrence and Horo is ok, but Lawrence’s stock has really been dropping. Also, the economic talk has continued to be extremely boring.

Hahaaa! One more KimiAru convert (I almost wrote convict, go figure!)

It’s a great example how you can still provide enjoyable entertainment with a minimal budget – simply by having a good storywriter. Takahiro FTW!

    Pun deliberately intended? :P

When talking about boring economics anime, you have you use boring economics terms!

And Mentar, I agree that KimiAru is way more than the sum of its parts. The one thing that really bothers me about that show, however, is how all the characters are smiling in the ED while using their eraser car. Wouldn’t the Colonel be against that? Why is Ren so happy to let everyone erasercar Mihato?

Obviously I am putting too much thought into this.

I’m with you most of the way, True Tears 12 keeps proving what you said here.

Spice and Wolf I’m starting to agree about, much as I want to love it. Being clever got them pretty far with me, but I care less and less.

But Gundam 00 started boring me after the novelty of looking at brightly-colored robots in HD wore off. I’m more looking forward to the new Macross, even if the last one sucked.

I don’t know if you watched H2O but that was the stinker out of what I watched this season. Regretted even starting.

I don’t remember any jealous vibes from Ren about Mihato ;) … so that would be okay in my eyes. And speaking about okay, every male person objecting against the rubbercar is either a liar or no man in the first place *grins* … I sure know MY reaction when this ED was shown for the first time. Standing ovations all around, and I didn’t even have to rise for that. *cough*

In any way, KimiAru singlehandedly revived a classic but dead-for-long genre: Ecchi. That alone deserves mention already.

    LOL Louise.

You know, that portion didn’t make any sense. Why don’t they just chop her whole arm off and regrow the arm. Or is her whole body messed up now? And if it is, can’t they just use robotics? Between Lichty and the mecha, surely they can do something for Louise.

As for the erasercar, I understand that most people would be smiling in that car, but I figured that Ren would be protective of Hato-nee, and Colonel would be protective of everyone. Damnit Ren, I thought you were better than that!

Gold Gundam? I saw no gold Gundam. There was a gold mobile armor, but thats it. Might wanna get your facts straight.
