From Owen:
I can’t speak for my absent fellow bloggers, but my recent inactivity? It’s Laziness, spelt with a capital “L”, and would be the only rationale I can think of for not writing as much as I should have recently, unscheduled blog outage aside. While it’s always nice to be able to say that “real life’s driving you up the wall”, the fact remains that we all have 24 hours in a day. Unless you’re frantically tapping away at your Blackberry every waking minute of your life, it’s really up to you on how much time you want to make for anime and I dare say I’ve failed in that regard for a fortnight straight.
I have to say it really bothers me when a blogger says something about real life getting in the way of blogging. It’s not like you are living a fake life through blogging; this isn’t an MMO or anything. Anime and blogging are hobbies, and if you are burned out or don’t have time to even watch new episodes, just say so. I agree with Owen that if you really enjoy anime blogging, you gotta make the time and put in the work.
Also that PBF/Gundam photochop is so awesome that it hits right at my core.

I got that PBF/G00 thing off /m/. Lurking there right after a G00 episode has that effect, I guess. They’re usually the most honest, too, and can point out what failed about the episode. It’s quite the entertaining dessert after the main course.
Oh yes it is. I believe those six days or so of not blogging were a torture (especially when I wanted to blog True Tears ep 09) that I had only previously experienced going cold turkey off an MMORPG.
Seriously, though, it isn’t all that hard to find MMORPG parallels in anime blogging either: you’ve got your killing creeps (watching/reading anime/manga) to gain exp (writing about it — or is that the other way around?) in order to level up (blog fame, i.e. e-penis).
Part of why I said that was due to how I know of people who treat anime, anime blogging, and the internet by extension as some kind of dangerous drug you’ve got to wean off. Not going to name names here, but I know of one particular blogger who stopped completely due to “school”, in his own words. Since he’s going to college in a bit, he’s going to restart his blog then, apparently.
These kind of people seem like they have time management/internet addiction issues. It’s as if anime and blogging happen to be some Cthulhu-like void in which you’re going to be sucked into and molested by a thousand eyeless tentacles, and giving it up makes you a better person or something.
Technology as a scapegoat’s not a new idea (our parents’ generation loves doing that), but it’s saddening to see those from our generation blame it just as much for their shortcomings when they could just exert a little bit of self-control instead of playing the blame game.
IRL? Is that the new game I’ve been hearing about??
LOL totali.
I hit a bump with my blogging for about 10 days or so recently… just had some crushing deadlines. Had some time to watch anime but just no mood to enjoy it at the time. It’s just one of those times when a hobby isn’t as fun because of other stuff weighing on my mind…
For some reason I thought you were talking about 0rion, but now that I found out that it’s about Owen, I don’t care anymore XD
Yeah, I’m tired of blogging right now. School’s a major stress and other things have come up. It’s really annoying how blogging seems almost like a necessity, but after a few days I realize it’s not. Then I become lazy and don’t post for even longer.
I’m addicted to writing…it’s as if somehow if I don’t spill out my thoughts my head would explode or something.
The usual rules about “if you don’t enjoy it any more you should stop” apply as always but in all honesty my enthusiasm ebbs and flows - some weeks I write a post each day, while others I go for up to a week without feeling the need to write anything. Wordpress post drafts are good for things like that.
BLOGGING IS SRS BSNS!
Jokes aside, real life does swarm at times, but it’s usually time management and a huge dose of laziness. YES, Laziness with a capital L.
Like now ^^
The best cure for laziness is comments. If everyone puts lots of comments on their favorite blogs, the bloggers will feel like they have a responsibility to an “audience” and will keep posting.
And I still don’t know what happened to Orion!
Maybe they had a dramatic falling out?
Also, real life has been keeping me from cooking dinner, washing my car, and vacuuming my room. So annoying.
“Oh yes it is. I believe those six days or so of not blogging were a torture”
It does get to the point where something seems wrong if I can’t of anything to write about for a couple of days. I wouldn’t say it’s an obligation to keep blogging once you start, but it feels like it’s the “honorable” thing to do. And that sounds very strange to me. :P
