I was pondering the following points:
- Who is Raigomaru? Everyone thinks it’s Shinichiro, but I am starting to think it is actually Noe. I think the prominent feather on Noe’s bag is meant to be a clue. Perhaps this realization (with Shinichiro’s help) will give Noe back her tears and help her to move on. It will also help Hiromi end up with Shinichiro. Finally, the book sales will help pay Jun back for his wrecked bike. Sorry Ai, you’re still screwed.
- Will Shinichiro actually end up with any of the girls? I can’t help but wonder if his art dreams and his desire to go to Tokyo will preclude any romances (at least until he returns to his hometown 5 years later with amnesia).
- What’s going on with the parents? Stripey suggested that perhaps Nakagami-okasan was the one who had the affair. I’m not sure about that theory, but something is very strange about the defaced photo albums. I am deathly afraid that the true answer will be like the Sarah Silverman-Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel-Ben Affleck video =(.
- Will Jibeta live? I wonder if he will end up flying out of the coop. It would be sad if the raccoon returned and ate him.
- Can Miyokichi face Shinichiro? Miyokichi’s trying so hard to be a good friend, but it’s probably better if he just tells Shinichiro everything he knows. Don’t worry, Ai isn’t even a contender for Shinichiro’s heart anymore! Ai, if Miyokichi asks you to come with him to the Jerry Springer show, say no!
I think the next major events are going to be the festival/dance (they have been building that up for a while) and the completion of Shinichiro’s picture book (probably in the ultimate or penultimate episode). With 4 episodes left, I think that is just enough time to have Shinichiro end up with either Hiromi or nobody. Any mysteries that I missed?

I still hold out hope for Noe despite your Hiromi or bust propaganda…
I don’t think that Raigomaru is Noe. Noe is not a purple pissing coward who is afraid to fly, that is most definitely Shin-chan in this context as Raigomaru wants to hang out with Jibeta.
If that bloody tanuki Stripey dares to take away Noe’s last friend then he shall be sent to Stripey hell where instead of lolis there will be shoutas, and instead of sis-con there will be yaoi bro-con.
The truth behind the Yuasa and Nakagami waifus will be interesting to see. Hopefully it will prove to be a coup de grace, a final blow for massive damage.
Nobuse is too much a good friend to kick Shin-chan into traffic. I think he and Aiko will work things out on their own, its not like Shin-chan is dying to Aiko any time soon anyway.
Still I hope that the festival will be awe inspiring.
“I still hold out hope for Noe despite your Hiromi or bust propaganda…”
TRUTH!
I still would like to see what Shinichiro’s father has to say. I hope that “You aren’t related” isn’t the only momentous thing that he says. :P
“I am deathly afraid that the true answer will be like the Sarah Silverman-Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel-Ben Affleck video =(.”
That would be a godly ending.
It’d be interesting if Jibeta flew instead. Noe is astute but she could be pining the right expectations on the wrong chicken as she is doing for Shin. Maybe Shin may be meant to fly but not in the direction or flight mode she envisioned it as she has come to realise a little in ep 9. Now if she were to mark Jun for romantic aspirations… I’m suddenly hoping Jibeta flies XD
Wow, I think you might be right about Noe being Raigomaru, but why is everyone counting Ai Chan out. I think she’ll end up with Nobuse or something, but I wouldn’t count her out. She’s one of my fav characters. Each one has unique characteristics about them. One is enigmaitically strange, one has deep sorrow and though she appears to be arrogent/self-absorbed, she’s just self-deprecating. Ai-Chan loves someone who who it is kinda wrong to love.
Crusader: I don’t know, I feel like some of Noe’s weirdness might be a bit of denial about her ability to feel sad without sinking into a pit of depression. I’m not 100% sure, however, and I don’t know if she’ll be crying out of happiness or sadness. LOL @ bro-con hell.
TheBigN: It’s sad that the non-named bald worker kid has more lines than Nakagami-otosan! The Nakagami patriarch is so mysterious!
Stripey: Interesting! I wonder if Jibeta will, er, catch some air and coast a bit. It would be a bit sad if Noe was more inspired by some chicken than by Shinichiro, though.
coffeebreak13: I’m only counting Ai out of the race for Shinichiro (not that she was really ever even in the race). However, I think she still can contribute to the story, and I really want to see how the Ai-Miyokichi thing works out.
Raigomaru is the rooster that died at the very beginning.
TBH, I’m not thinking too hard as to what could happen at the end, in fear of winding up disappointed. If nothing else, I’m glad there was some measure of proof that Shin and Hiromi aren’t related after all, which made me feel a bit more comfortable with the setup as a whole.
Either way, this is still the highlight of the season for me - an absolute gem of a series if it can maintain this momentum.
I’m boggled about Hiromi’s reasons for asking Shin to help her be friends with Noe and Noe’s reasons for Noe’s response to Hiromi.
Hiromi says Noe figured her out… but what exactly? Because it seems to me that Noe doesn’t pay attention to romance until after Shin made her blush and run away.
Shin overhears Hiromi say she likes No.4 and is encouraged to think that Hiromi wanted to get close to No.4 through Noe. Noe had no idea about Hiromi thinking of Jun, which was one of the reasons for the cat fight. So what was Hiromi referring to about Noe figuring out?
It’s a mystery to me how Hiromi feels about Shin. I think the ending of the series may prove how artistically the show has portrayed Hiromi’s conflicted feelings… or maliciousness, depending on what her reasons were.
When the episode ended, I also had my doubts about Raigomaru, actually.
I never thought it was Noe though, but I can’t remember what I actually thought. /sucks/
But, after some thinking, one possibility could be that as Noe said, Shinichirou’s way is not with her, so I believe that Raigomaru won’t fly in the end, so as to be with Jibeta…who I thought was Hiromi, I guess. He’ll realize he can do better staying with Jibeta instead of flying like a rooster isn’t supposed to. Being dishonest, maybe?
But that doesn’t fit well with some descriptions of the story…but, after what happened with Hiromi, Raigomaru (Shini?) didn’t feel like flying that day…so what is it that he wants? Because, (and I’m talking for the hope I have that there will be a Hiromi/Shini ending) if he stays with Jibeta(Hiromi?), as he is unconciously thinking by not making it fly, aren’t those his real feelings? And he is flying in his own way, not as Noe wants, she could represent the sky.
Ah well, some episodes to end the doubts.
