Shakugan no Shana Second 20

Summary:
When Yuuji wakes up, he finds that everyone besides Wilhelmina was knocked out in a tremendous surprise attack. Fortunately that move has a very long cooldown, but Destructive Blade Sabrac has appeared and he seems nearly invincible. His attacks proc a nasty DoT called Stigma, and he is able to regenerate when reduced to a mere shred of cloth. In spite of his power, however, Sabrac is extremely difficult to detect, and that’s how he was able to take out Johan back then.

Wilhelmina is quite crafty, and from fighting with Sabrac so many times she knows a bit about his weaknesses. Apparently he has no aggro-shedding moves, and will keep attacking a single target (allowing the other Flame Hazes time to recover). Wilhelmina manages to get him to bite on some kawarimi no jutsu, while Yuuji runs through a tunnel looking for some way to defeat a dual-wielding assassin who surfs on a fiery tidal wave of swords.

Reaction:
This was a really exciting episode, as Wilhelmina fought overwhelming odds to buy time for everyone else. I liked the way Wilhelmina fights, and she uses so many crafty tricks. She even broke out a bandage Giga Drill Breaker. I guess Wilhelmina is the best person to stall Sabrac since she can bandage herself constantly, but does Yuuji even know where he is going?

The rest of the gang was totally useless this time. I don’t know how Kazumi just happened to have a first aid kit, but even Marjorie’s counter-spells cannot slow down Stigma. I liked how in the heat of battle, the camera kept cutting to Wilhelmina’s head so that Tiamat could get her screentime. I assume Yuuji-gumi will gattai for massive DPS on Sabrac, and perhaps Wilhelmina can distract Sabrac long enough for Shana to land an Alastor special (Tenpa Jyousai) on him. More than likely, however, Yuuji will suddenly hit Super-Saiyan level 2 and drive Sabrac off before collapsing.

    <3 Wilhelmina~

She was already my favorite character since 1st season, but she rocked hardcore in this ep. I think she’s clearly the most versatile and strategic of the 3 good Flame Hazes.

My other thought of this episode was how embarassing/funny it was for Wilhelmina to babysit Yuuji throughout the fight, dragging him everywhere. He could’ve at least acted as a recharging battery for her while he was along for the ride.

That’s what I was thinking! He could have at least been charging up a big purple fireball for her. It’s nighttime, so Yuuji would have been recharged in just a few hours.

And why was Yuuji screaming when the fire shards were flying towards him? He has an anti-flame ring!

I’m an unrepentant Marjorie fanboy but Wilhelmina was pretty badass here, and her ribbons provide lots of great opportunities for creative (and pretty sweet) fight animation.

I think this episode might have set a two-season world record for speed lines.

    Wirhlemina for MVP!

Zyl, every time you type her name, it seems like you add an extra consonant =D. I guess Shana does the same thing, only spoken (mmm, Whirrrhlhelmina). Also, PBF is so wrong, but so awesome at the same time.

I really thought Wilhelmina would just go neko-mask and start throwing ribbons around like last season (vs. Bel Peol), but the building sandwich and the exploding bandage moves were really sweet. Also, the bandage clone has so many possibilities that I am surprised this is the first time we are seeing it.
