Everyone gets stuck cleaning the pool, because it was the only way Toraji could get the school officials to sanction the training camp. There is a brief hint at possible fanservice when all the girls (in their white shirts) get soaked, but no fanservice is actually shown. Even more incredibly, the bathhouse scene before dinner is completely skipped over. This kind of resilience against the lure of fanservice is incredible, and even Tamaki’s dad is convinced to go home. Fortunately, on his way out, he accidentally intercepts Akemi, who was trying to escape in order to go on a date.
We have some more scenes of camp fun, as Kirino defeats Maya in a shinai assembling contest, and Sayako messes up her chance to perform Respect My Friend Forever with True Love. Unfortunately, when Kirino returns home from the training camp, she finds her mom collapsed in the living room!
Overall, not too much happened this episode. Just about the only hint of fanservice in the episode was the popsicle scene, and even that only featured Maya! That kind of self-control is almost unheard of, so I have to applaud the director. The boys even got stuck sleeping in a completely different building (on the other side of campus).
I noticed that once again Dan seems to have talent in twirling makeshift weapons (as well as falling asleep quickly). The scene with Ando sleeping with her eyes open was creepy and hilarious, and I’m surprised that Reimi didn’t crash the party. Also awesome was when Dan noticed Yoshikawa-sensei hitting on Toraji and realized that Yuuji doesn’t understand women.

Dan’s the man… He must have something to be able to get and calm Miya-Miya’s heart.
They really do show off several of Dan’s good traits, so it doesn’t seem nearly as strange now that Miyako is so in love with him. He is definitely in tune with how she’s feeling, and he’s got brains and skills. Really the only problem with him is that he is short and funny looking.
I wonder how they met, though… It would be interesting if it was love at first sight and if Dan were her type.
I agree the production staff seems to go out of their way to avoid/resist fanservice opportunities. I can’t believe there wasn’t a single scene of the bath house!
I’d buy Sayako’s CD.
Reminded me of the scene when Pippin’s first attempt to get a peek (again) at the palantir from Gandalf and thought our favourite whitebearded wizard was awake.
