Persona -Trinity Soul- 01

Chief of police Ryou Kanzato has his hands tied; however his investigation is so secret that his fellow investigators and not even the anime viewers (at least this one :P) have any idea what’s going on! There’s hints of some investigation into the “Reverse incident” and some sort of “List” of people which (I think) happen to be A Latents. After finding some of the list members with their skins turned inside out, Ryou sends some protection for the remaining people, but the body count continues to rise. However, Ryou eventually does manage to potentially catch one of the attackers in the act performing some sort of soul sucking ritual on a girl with what I call a “spirit mech”. Ryou releases his own spirit without blinking an eye (though he does take off his glasses) to free the girl from the clutches of spirit suckage, but the attacker gets away.

Meanwhile, Ryou’s little brothers Jun and Shin are returning to live in his house. It’s been a while since the both of them have seen Ryou, and Shin isn’t sure what to expect and to say, but he’s given plenty of time to think about it as Ryou isn’t there to pick them up from the airport. So the two of them find their own way to Ryou’s house and they reminisce a bit on how things use to be, and you learn that Jun had a twin sister Yuki who apparently died at an early age. Shin has also been having these strange dreams where he finds himself being attacked, but something strange comes out of his body to save him at every moment. After finding themselves locked out of Ryou’s house, the two of them go get a bite to eat.

Eventually, Ryou comes back to his house to find Shin and Jun sleeping outside his door. After sort of an awkward greeting, he lets both of them in, and the two of them retreat to their rooms to unpack. As Ryou is unpacking some of his statues, he finds himself holding a statue of a person that reminded him of a strange fortune teller with a pinocchio-like nose that he thought he dreamt about, but the dream felt so real to him. Determined to find out whether he was really dreaming or not, Shin goes out to the location where he thought he found the fortune teller only to run into the attacker that Ryou encountered earlier. The attacker is writhing in pain as is his spirit mech, which ends up attacking Shin, but we learn that Shin has a mech of his own that comes out and slashes away the attacking mech.

Man…what a strange but intriguing start to this series. We have so many questions presented in this first episode (what are these “spirit mechs” and was Jun talking to Yuki behind closed doors?), so I’m pretty excited to see how all of these get answered. Although I’ve heard that it’s based off a video game, I haven’t played or read any background about it, so feel free to address any points that I might have missed or misinterpreted :P

The writer that hides in the shadows shows up again!

I haven’t played the game either but I thought this was pretty interesting. It’s getting quite a few good reviews from those who have played the game as well.

I have returned from the shadows after going back into hiding from how badly Jyushin Enbu turned out to be >.< Hopefully Persona will turn out to be much better.

The wikipedia page for Persona 3 (The game this anime is a sequel to) has a lot of good information.

The long nosed fortune tellers name is Igor who played a major role in the video game.

The spirit mechs as you call them are Called Persona. In the game they were summoned by only a select few by the use of gun like objects called evokers, They would point the evoker to their heads and pull the trigger to summon the persona. There was another group that used some pills, drugs to forcefully bring the personae out, but it would have a negative side effect on the users health.

I really do reccomend checking out the wikipedia page, You can find information about all of the former characters, What the apathy syndrome that they mention in the anime is all about..etc. It would be a good way to spend 20 minutes.

Well, for starters PERSONA 3 the game is sorta different because there’s no three brothers in the game, plus it starts off differently and there’s a lot more different characters. Anyway, I read the manga (i think) of the game and it’s pretty good and sorta better than the anime, but the anime is pretty interesting too.
