The strange girl in the store turns out to be Odajima Reimi, who has been stalking Miyako since middle school. Even worse, she is the daughter of the hag that put Toraji’s job in jeopardy. Speaking of Toraji, we also see a flashback of when he was 18 and wussed out when a burglar robbed the show he was working at. I guess this explains why he is a loser now.
When Miyako spots Reimi at the 28th Annual Murakoshi Cup Kendo Meet, Miyako’s performance begins to suffer. While Tamaki wins, and Dan surprisingly comes in second place, the team does not do well overall. However, the remarks of Kirino’s middle school friends about Azuma Satori being a badass kendoka makes Kirino realize that the fifth team member is right under their noses.
They never did show what Miyako got Dan for his birthday, but it was so sad nice that Tamaki got her dad a birthday present instead of buying that DVD boxset for herself. I also thought it was hilarious how when Toraji offered his parent’s 50,000 as a prize for winning at Interhigh, Yuuji asked if the amount was off by two decimal places.
The introduction of Reimi gives Toraji such a convenient out. All he has to do is convince Dan to accept a threesome, in exchange for Reimi convincing her mom to get Toraji’s job back. The team doesn’t even have to win Interhigh then! I mean, I think Tamaki could go all the way, but it never hurts to have a backup plan. On the other hand, if Tamaki thinks she can win cash to buy the anime boxset, I don’t see how anyone else can stop her.

I wonder how far you have to look to find out where that first screen caption is inspired from.
After she gets married obviously.
