It’s finally time for the festival, and Yuuji-gumi’s costumes look great. Of course Yuuji and Kazumi look fantastic as Romeo and Juliet, and everyone comes out to see the parade. Wilhelmina even manages to drag Marjorie along, by promising to give Marjorie info on Silver. It’s a clever plan, as the display of childish joy and the happiness of Yuuji-gumi soothe Marjorie’s Bear Rage, and she agrees to wait to meet with everyone tomorrow night for information about Silver. Everybody’s having fun eating crepes and watching Ogata own it up in volleyball (winning an all-you-can-eat voucher as MVP), but of course it can’t last.
When she finally gets Yuuji alone, Kazumi manages to get out a pseudo-confession, saying she wants more than a one-sided love (whenever Yuuji gets around to making a choice). Shana manages to win the Grand Prix for best costume and decides to confess to Yuuji in her victory speech. However, before Shana can muster her courage, the girl dressed as Alice accidentally brushes Yuuji’s hand, and a huge tornado appears. Finally, Pheles has arrived.
I thought this was an excellent episode, and not just because of the fantastic eyecatch. They had the right mix of normal life and the tense feeling that everything is about to change. Add in some real progress in the love triangle, and suddenly I’m willing to wait till next episode for some action, just like Marjorie. The animation for the parade was surprisingly great, and it turned Marjorie into pudding in Wilhelmina’s hands. Also surprisingly great was everyone complimenting Yuuji on his incredible stamina while Satou seethed in jealousy.
While it was nice that Pheles finally arrived, I was a bit confused by how she was searching for Reiji Maigo. So she flies along faster than a speeding bullet train, and gets pinged every time someone touches hands? That can’t possibly be the most efficient searching algorithm! Also, they finally tried to resolve the whole Shana/Yukari controversy by acting like “Shana-chan” is a special nickname.

I was under the impression that the hand-touching “pings” were her memories of Johan.
Was there any doubt over the Shana/Yukari thing, though? I thought it was one of those things where suspension of disbelief conveniently ties up the loose ends, and that Shana conveniently altered the Yukari-shaped reality so that she had a “Shana-chan” nickname there that always existed. Or something.
Yea yea, they did it to spite you.
lol I wonder when Pheles is gonna pull out her dragonball radar.
EDIT: Owen thinks he’s cool because he can post comments a minute before me >:3
Hey, you’re not Adam!
You mean like with someone filming you and providing a running commentary?
I make you a deal you can’t refuse. Final answer, Yuuji?
At first I thought they were memories of Johan and Pheles holding hands, but there was this one shot of a business handshake, and I figured that wasn’t the case. As for Dragon Ball radar… hmmmm. You’d think someone who could invent the Reiji Maigo would have put a better tracker on the Hougu.
Kabitzin, your captions are priceless ^_^ … especially the middle one.
I don’t know the novels, but somehow I have this strange feeling that Pheles has been “traveling” from person to person, always in the direction of Johan, and that the touching hands kind of have been the “handing Pheles over” to the next carrier. And once she struck the Reiji Maigo ==> Boom. But I might be completely off
I don’t see any great mystery in the fact that everybody now addresses “Yukari” as “Shana.” First Yuuji started calling her Shana about six months ago. Then Tanaka and Satou picked it up. Then Kazumi started doing it. By this point even those who are not in on the secret will naturally assume that it is her preferred nickname.
What if the last carrier lost his arms? This could bring about a situation similar to what happened to God (on vacation) in Dogma.
I suppose that makes sense. However:
Random Student: So how did you get the nickname “Shana”?
Shana: [pulls out flaming katana]
