The TV program that rocked Tamaki senseless turns out to be a commercial for Material Puzzle, Season 1: Mages of the Continent. The 46 episode DVD boxset even comes with a bald talking figure, but runs ¥60,000 (about $530)… Even after cannibalizing all her life savings, she is still ¥19,051 short. Fortunately, because Miyako hurt her foot so badly, she needs someone to fill in for her shift at Fancy Shoppe Moo Moo House.
Tamaki is a perfect replacement, because the shop owner is this freaky zombie lady who frightens away the customers. However, Tamaki is surprised to find herself extremely scared at the prospect of dealing with customers. At the same time, Toraji has to repay a ¥10,000 debt and is stuck eating crappy infomercial health food that his mom sent.
While Tamaki’s clerk-fright was very cute, this episode was pretty boring overall. Toraji was being a bit more informative than usual, and I wonder if he will ever turn the corner and stop being such a bum. Kenzaburo’s idea that Tamaki should experience losing to a girl her age was interesting, and perhaps Tamaki’s experience at the Moo Moo House will be valuable down the line.
Speaking of which, that place was pretty freaky. They never did explain why there were cat-o-nine-tails for sale, or why everyone wanted to buy that hanged bug-eye-guy keychain. Poor Kawazoe-sensei thinks his daughter is getting a part-time job to buy him a birthday gift, but really she is saving up for a ridiculously expensive DVD boxset.

The moral of this episode is that otaku should not complain about the high prices of anime goods; they must prove their devotion by working hard and buying them anyway.
