Bamboo Blade 06

Toraji’s idea for disguising Tamaki is pathetic, and everyone quickly sees through it; however, Kenzaburo allows it because Tamaki is so exciting. Konatsu is quickly dispatched with a double headshot, and it’s Miyako’s turn. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know how to score against the listless Akemi, and once Akemi gets an apology text from her boyfriend, she quickly takes out Miyako with a double headshot of her own. In the pivotal third match, Karen turns out to be one of those highly skillful turtling fighters, but Sayako is able to force a draw by utilizing the footwork tips from Tamaki.

The match against Yuri is an easy win for Kirino, in spite of Yuri’s freaky natto gaze, and sneaky pulling out the chair move. Finally, “Braver” (Tamaki borrowing the V. Principal’s glasses until Monday) shows up to fight Maya. Maya thinks her battlecry is pretty boss, but Tamaki lets out a shout of her own; the shout casts a strong debuff on Maya and Tamaki easily wins with a pair of head strikes. Impressed with Tamaki’s skill, Kenzaburo immediately demands a match with her.

This was a good episode that highlighted the various kendoka styles. Even Dan got to show off his amazing time and score keeping. Toraji’s proud comments were awesome in light of how little teaching he did, and Tamaki trying to cheer for Kirino was omega kawaii. Unfortunately, Tamaki showed that her moral resolve is not nearly as strong as her kendo, as the promise of a rare anime was enough to get her to agree to the scam.

As for Kenzaburo’s team, they really underperformed. It was too bad that Konatsu had to fight against Tamaki, as Yuuji revealed that even half-strength Tamaki is enough to tool over everyone in practice. It has to be very disappointing that flakey Akemi was the only girl on Kenzaburo’s team to win, and that was only because she was matched against a complete n00b.
