Shana tells Yuuji to keep his POE in his pants until they can sort out this whole Silver flame mess, and with that it’s time for the planning of the Seishuu Festival. Everyone draws their parts for the parade, and Kazumi gets to be the Juliet to Yuuji’s Romeo (Shana draws Dorothy, and Konoe draws the Wizard of Oz). Both Kazumi and Shana realize it’s pointless to squabble over every little detail, and decide to instead use that energy to pursue Yuuji.
At the same time, we get to meet Yuuji’s creepy, stalker dad. Kantarou tells a cryptic story of how he managed to win Chigusa when they were quite young, and tells Shana and Kazumi to reach out and choke Konoe to death. Speaking of everyone’s favorite leech, there is more foreshadowing with Konoe and her butler sharing the same thin bracelet. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina meets up with Khamsin in Paris and is shocked to learn that Pheles is still alive and searching for Reiji Maigo.
I guess I thought Kantarou would be cool, considering how awesome Chigusa is, but I was completely wrong. That dude is just a creepy weirdo. And it was very unlike Chigusa to serve leftovers to Shana and Kazumi while they were ditching out on festival work. Overall, the lackluster storytelling in this episode matched up with the lackluster production values quite well. Another thing that bothered me this episode (and has for a while) is how some of the other students refer to Shana as “Shana-chan”. Shouldn’t they all call her Hirai Yukari, since Shana stole Yukari’s remaining POE? They write Hirai Yukari to refer to Shana, so why do other students call her Shana?
Meanwhile the hint of Pheles is dangled before us right at the end and we learned that Reiji Maigo is Pheles’ past lover’s memento. Did Wilhelmina think that she accidentally got Pheles killed somehow? Wilhelmina’s expression was one of guilt and surprise. I was also surprised that Wilhelmina used a rolling cart instead of carrying a huge backpack. It really didn’t have the same effect. Oh well, at least Pheles will probably show up soon, and if she’s the green-haired girl in the OP, she may be attracted to Romeo Yuuji.

Oh god, another pathetic episode. Chigusa totally got gyped in the relationship market. Of course “Yu-chan” is no prize himself… Like father, like son. But I’m seriously hoping for Kantarou to be a badass in hiding. Why else would he disappear at random, long periods of time?
I dunno, Yuuji is looking better and better as time goes on. He’s not that annoying, and even if you don’t like him, you can use his Reiji Maigo for a lot of really neat tricks.
I’d like to know if the women are actually attracted to Yuuji or to the Hougu inside him.
Well… for the others, she’s still Hiragi Yukari, with “Shana” being her nickname with which Yuji addresses her constantly. Therefore, after a while, the others began to call her that, too.
On to greenhaired hottie Pheles, looks like her arc is going to be fun ^_^
Obviously size of POE does matter.
When I saw the classmates calling Shana, “Shana-chan”, I died laughing. It’s like Lois Lane calling Clark Kent “Hey, Superman, get that draft in now!”
Even if Yuuji calls Shana “Shana” everyone else should hear him calling her “Yukari” because Shana took Yukari’s remaining existence. So really it makes no sense.
Even if Shana’s camouflage trick extended to names, I don’t think it would work like that. After all, at the time she disguised herself as Yukari, “Shana” was just something Yuuji unilaterally decided to call her; it wasn’t until after Friagne had been defeated that she accepted it as her actual name.
The annoying thing about Yuuji is that he is wishy-washy and clueless. His dad annoying because he’s a creepy guy and he has Chigusa despite the fact.
wp: Hmm, I agree that Yuuji is clueless, but I am not sure if he is wishy washy. My pet theory is that he isn’t that into any of the girls, and that’s what makes him even more desirable. It just seems like Yuuji’s got a lot of RL issues to deal with before he worries about which girl’s flag he wants to trigger.
You are definitely right about why Kantarou sucks, however.
It’s a plot hole that they don’t want you looking into!!! Just leave them alone!
EDIT: Woo 100 comments! One small step for Sea Slugs, one giant step for Totali!
He seems pretty wishy-washy to me. Of course, I just read the second light novel where he’s really into Shana.
Regarding Kantarou:
Doesn’t it always seem like these weird loser creepy guys always end up with the girl? I just know that Hosaka is going to end up with Haruka…

Hmm would be funny if Makoto becomes the one to end up with Haruka…
Anyway, recent Shakugan no Shana Second episodes are as boring as sloths, would be nice to see Yuuji taking the initiative on Shana for a change. Or maybe more action, regarding the Gin no Tomogara and Pheles. Pheles, especially. Probably she’s the green-haired girl in the OP. The mystery behind Konoe is tempting as well…
