Yaya tricks Amu into going for ice cream, and by “ice cream” Amu really meant “boring ballet class.” Yaya’s a decent ballerina, but the real star of the class is Himekawa Maika. Maika’s mother was a famous prima ballerina not too long ago, but her career as a ballerina was cut short due to injury. However, while Maika’s mother Orie-san is very pleasant, Maika is haughty and curt. Clearly Maika has issues with how her mother’s career ended, and Maika’s emo is released when she sprains her ankle badly in class, and cannot star in this week’s performance.
Amu takes a quick trip back to the mysterious planeterium, and the mysterious guy who looks like a taller, older Tadase is chilling out there. TALLdase is a struggling writer who likes to come to the planeterium whenever he gets writer’s block, and he reminds Amu that only the character who is missing something inside can become the main character. After all, every genius angsty character in anime always ends up as a secondary character who simply serves as a foil for the hero. And with that, it’s time for Maika’s X-Chara to manifest itself. Yaya tries to chara-change and use a Giant Rattle strike, but the X-chara easily reflects the attack. Eventually, Amu uses Miki’s power to chara-become Amulet Spade. With some counseling and a heart beam, Amu helps Miaka realize that even though dreams can be fragile, one shouldn’t be defeated so easily.
Yaya’s chara-change was not at all impressive, and it’s difficult to see how anyone other than Tadase had success against X-Chara before Amu came along. It also seems like that jerk Yuu is causing kids to go all emo in hopes that the Embryo will appear; however, when the experiment fails, it is up to Ikuto to clean up the mess. Since it’s implied that Ikuto is doing this service as a job, shouldn’t Amu get some kind of subcontract payment? Yuu’s emo-cultivation reminds me of all those celeb chefs you see who can toss stuff around in their pan because they don’t have to worry about wiping everything down afterwards.
I thought it was awesome how Amu threatened to flush Ran down the toilet if she kept on breaking out all those random chara-changes. In fact, I was happily reminded of all the fun times that Fool and Sora had together in Kaleido Star. While this episode wasn’t as entertaining as some of the previous episodes, we are meeting more characters and getting more background information. To that end, I wonder if TALLdase was perhaps the original King who wrote the Guardian for Dummies book that Tadase mentioned at the first tea party.

lol what’s up with stuck up prima always asking for people to get out of the way? Like…she didn’t even need to walk to where they were standing.
I think Yaya is the only one with a reject chara change. I mean, the rest of the group seems to have potential. They’re no match for Amu’s heart beam and friendship power though!
LOVE SHUGO CHARA
