Blue Drop 02

Mari has a hot dream about Hagino tentacling her in the ocean, and wakes up in a much better mood. Mari is genki now, and starts calling Michiko “Micchi” as a pet name. We get a bit of Mari’s backstory, and learn that she is the lone survivor of the tsunami that devastated her island. However, in a mysterious slideshow, Yuuko reveals that half the inhabitants were dead before the tsunami hit, and one slide shows a man with a kitchen knife in his back.

At the same time, white-haired Tsubael sits in the ship Blue at the bottom of the sea, as only 74% of the repairs have been completed. Tsubael is eager to continue their mission as soon as repairs are done, as a mysterious Novaal has been getting too close for comfort. However, Hagino wants to investigate Mari more, and even pulls some strings to become Mari’s roommate. That night, Tsubael activates a ghostly version of herself to communicate with Hagino, but is shocked to learn that Mari can see both of them. When Hagino grabs Mari’s shoulders to calm her down, electricity is in the air, and Hagino falls to the ground like a taser victim.

Damn this episode was slow, but there was just enough information to keep me interested. The plight of Hagino and Tsubael is amusing, as Tsubael is trying to be professional but her commander is more interested in getting with one of the locals. Even Hagino has trouble understanding the depth of her yuri longing for Mari, and it looks like Mari is going to need to sleep with a chastity belt or something at night.

I liked the real ED, though the OP is still a bit too slow for my tastes. I’ve liked most of Suara’s stuff since I heard her OP of Utawarerumono. Anyway, at least Mari wasn’t as emo this time, and I look forward to her trying to expose Hagino as a psycho.

Slow stuff works for Suara as well, I’d think. Hearing her insert song in Asatte no Houkou, as well as the ED in Utawarerumono shows that she can cause great impact with the slow songs too. So the Blue Drop OP works with me. That and it’s 3/4 (or 6/8) time signature. :P
