Amu is still a bit skeptical about what just happened, but her actions yesterday have made her even more popular. Normal people cannot see the Guardian Chara, and Ran takes the opportunity to have Amu show off her gymnastics skills in front of an over-matched Suzuki. Later that day in art class, Amu is having trouble drawing vain Yamabuki Saaya; fortunately the blue egg hatches and the second Guardian Chara, Miki, gives Amu crazy art skills. However, Miki is aloof because the Chara doesn’t see Amu believing in her own dreams. If a person doesn’t believe in her Guardian Chara, the Guardian Chara will disappear. And so, with an intense guilt trip, Ran and Miki convince Amu to be a bit more open-minded.
The Guardians definitely have their eyes on her, and Amu gets an invitation to a tea ceremony after school. They give her a picture book of spoilers (but with one page torn out) written by the founding Guardian king, and it explains that all kids have egg hearts, and if it wiggles out like a chestburster, you get a Guardian Chara. However, if you are burdened by worries, your egg darkens and turns into an X Egg. And wouldn’t you know it, this is exactly what happens to Suzuki, as he gets all emo thinking that his dream of being a charismatic eroge programmer/CEO will never blossom. Fortunately, by voguing like Madonna, Amu is able to do a Heart Unlock and change into Amulet Heart. She then blasts the X Egg with a heart-shaped beam, and the egg returns to normal.
This episode was mostly good, except for the cheesy “fight”. Random bishie EggGuy tried to inflict some crazy angst on that third grader, but even the X Egg’s Muda Muda Muda attack was no match for the Open Heart beam. I think it is really admirable that Amu is tackling the realistic and important issue of angst and depression in children. The world doesn’t need saving every day, but there are tons of kids wallowing in self-pity everywhere. Amu’s “spicy power” really fired up Suzuki, and now the young loser can’t wait to become the kind of man that gold-diggers love. The animation was good (and with a transformation scene!), but it is really hard to get excited about a girl defeating an ostrich egg with her Prozac Beam.
I’m glad that Amu realizes how ridiculous her powers are. She’s also smart enough to reject membership into the Guardians because of their truly fugly plaid capes. Also, one can’t help but be alarmed at how little the Guardians value privacy. And for future reference, here are the Guardian Chara teams (I guess Amu will have to be the Joker):
- King Hotori Tadase: Kiseki
- Queen Fujisaki Nadeshiko: Temari
- Ace Yuika Yaya: Pepe
- Jack Souma Kuukai: Daichi

Dude what are you talking about….that was AWESOME. OMG! Heart-o shoot!!!!
I’m still loving the hilarious engrish at the beginning of the episodes…..oh they make me rofl. ^. This show is too good.
I also love the random engrish in Shugo Chara. The over the topness of the whole thing makes it really fun to watch. Though I wouldn’t be caught dead watching this in front of another human being, haha.
Copied and pasted from my comment on Ex Fan…
Oh yea, and I know you’ve been changing my smilies Kabitzin! wth!! ^.
Two things came to mind when watching Shugo Chara:
1. Sailormoon
2. Care Bears
But the story does seem to be quite interesting lol
Wait are you making your smilies like that on purpose with no eye on the right side?
lol……..heck yes! That’s the COOL and SPICY way of doing it. Did you think I was missing the second ^ every time i wrote a comment? xD
Yes… Obviously I am behind the times in my dorky plaid royal cape =(.
‘Prozac beam’ lol.
I’m with Shirukii. I can enjoy this, but there’s an abiding sense of shame that hangs over the procedings.
Also I hope Amu makes some peace with her cool character. I’ll be sad if her ‘happy ending’ is not being awesome anymore. It’d be like watching Nanoha retire from magical girling to run Midoriya at the end of A’s.
