Shugo Chara 01

We meet the “cool and spicy” Hinamori Amu, but it quickly becomes apparent that her rebellious attitude is just an act. Amu longs to wear cute frilly clothes, but her mom’s weird goth punk taste has led to many strange rumors about Amu springing up. After watching a scary psychic lady on TV, Amu prays to have the courage to be reborn as her would-be self. The next morning, three Easter Eggs are waiting for Amu. But why is there no diamond egg?

We next meet the Seiyo Academy Guardians (King Hotori Tadase, Queen Fujisaki Nadeshiko, Ace Yuika Yaya, and Jack Souma Kuukai), and find out that Amu has a one-sided crush on Tadase. However, the Guardians are only interested in her after finding out that she has three Chara eggs. One of the eggs hatches into genki Ran, who is the first of Amu’s Guardian Chara. With enough courage, Amu can use 120% of her Guardian Chara’s abilities and achieve a character change. This comes in handy in thwarting the sly nekomimi-bishonen Tsukiyomi Ikuto, and recovering the mysterious clover-shaped Humpty Lock. Essentially, Amu has spiral power, and she needs to believe in herself, and not in the Ran who believes in her.

Normally I would never touch this series, but when I found out from usagijen’s post that this series was based on a manga by Peach Pit I was immediately convinced to watch it. True the first episode had a lot of cliches, but I remember how well Zombie Loan rose above the cliches to give really awesome and deep characters. Also, the thought of repressing your inner fangirl really interests me. I like Amu’s design, and I think of her as what GolemGirl could have been in Zombie Loan, if Nogi hadn’t shot her in the head.

I was amused at the constant references to Hop Step Jump! and I really liked the cute OP. The art was also surprisingly smooth, and I was thrilled when Amu’s X barrette changed into a heart and she started flitting through the air in her tennis outfit. Mostly I am putting a lot of faith in Peach Pit’s ability to develop characters who are trying to discover themselves. I am getting some Uta~Kata vibes too, but in a good way.

Oh you mean zombie loan was good? I quit after the first episode. SC was ok, with one scene in particular really funny. The one where she just stood up and confessed haha.

Dude I am so glad that people are realizing the awesomeness of this show. I’ve absolutely loved everything Peach Pit has made so far. Amu is a total poser and this show gives off amazing vibes of gurl power. Yes….in a good way. COOL AND SPICY!

More Amu x Ikuto for me XD

I really like the development of Ikuto’s character, as cliche as the badass-turned-good would sound. And, Amu x Ikuto’s chemistry is certainly undeniable (as far as the manga is concerned).

The other characters aren’t also as stereotype as they might seem. You’re gonna be in for quite a surprise as you discover some other side of Tadase (or rather, his Shugo Chara), the same goes for Nadeshiko’s Shugo Chara :3

oh, and the villains’ group is called “Easter” btw. So you can say that they are the owners of the “Easter Eggs” LOL.

The central theme of eggs is so hilarious. OMG don’t take my embryo!

I could go for some light romantic comedy. So far the other shows that I have enjoyed this season have been rather serious business.

I’m glad to go back to my slice of life/sugary/KAWAIINESS~!!!/loli series again! I’m done watching serious anime for awhile. Well, at least til I finish the last two epis of DTB.

This “COOL AND SPICY” (MMMMMhhhhmmmm!!!) Amu girl reminds me a lot of Sora Nagino from Kaleido Star (the look I mean). This epi was enjoyable, but I’m still not sure whether to follow this series or not. I may have to sit on it to see what it hatches into!… *crickets*

err… anyways, I didn’t realize Peach Pit was the original creators of Zombie Loan. I’m enjoying that series also! I hope this series will have a lot of fanservice!

They did have that moment where you could see Ran’s really puffy bloomers, if you are into that sort of thing.

Given the general mood though, I’m pretty sure there won’t be an egg that turns Amu into a slutty version of herself.

Mmmm! You know me all too well Kabitzin! *giggles* jk! I guess I am into that sort of thing, but not for chibi characters. More like… Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service (not sure if those were bloomers though…) Yea, she probably won’t have a slutty version, but I can always hope for one with a bit more curves. Not necessarily slutty, just…you know! :) *drools*
